My Animals

I drew this for my mom for Mother's day. It is a cartoon of all of our animals. Ginger is the mother cat, and the other two are her grown up kids. Cuddles is the mischevious one, which is why I drew him going after the poor fish, ha ha. Dustie is our dog and she is always keeping an eye on our cats and goes after them when she thinks they are doing something wrong.

Aww, how precious! It loks kind of like my house. I have 1 dog, a hamster, and 3 cats (the divas, I call them). (And a partridge in a pear tree.) I love the way you drew these animals. It's so original! I don't think I've ever seen anything like it. Way to go! They all look rather mischievous in the way you drew them. Are they? I absolutely LOVE the fish. Poor fishy. This is so humorous. Great work. I'll be thinking about this picture all day now.

Thank you very much Lady Anime 79! Yes...they all are mischevious...but Cuddles is EXTREAMLY mischievous. Out of all of them he is always exploring and finding new things to get into. He plays with rubber bands, drinks out of the toilet ( after watching my dog whom he looks up to), sleeps in boxes and other enclosed spaces, and can't meow (he tries but it comes out as this airy sound...its sad but funny). Awww, they sound so sweet. I have a cat that can't meow either. (My orange tabby.) But that's only because the previous owners had a collar on her and they had it way too tight and it damaged her vocal cords. I took the cat from them because they had said that she wasn't eating or anything. I took one look at her and I knew exactly what was wrong. She was gasping for breath and everything. I told them the collar was choking her and I cut it off of her. I was so shocked when I saw that the collar had actually cut into her neck all the way around. I took her home with me and nursed her back to health. She's doing great now. She has the scar tissue from the cuts and she can't meow, but, she's in pretty good health now. I felt sorry for the owners because they didn't know it was the collar that was the problem. They cried and cried. I guess it can happen to anyone. You just have to be really careful when it comes to animals.

Awwww! That is so sad. My cat has not been able to meow since birth. I guess that is just the way he is. About 4 years ago before I got the mother of these kittys, I found a brown tabby kitten on the side of our house...it was hot that day and she was dehydrated...I gave her a bath and nursed her back to health. She was not able to meow either. However, as she got older (and um, got pregnant...oops) she had a terrible time giving birth...we had to pull the kittens out of her. All of the babies died. She got pregnant again RIGHT after before we were able to get her fixed (oops again) but we didn't want to abort the pregnancy and thought she might have better luck this time. We were wrong...she went into labor and we had to pull the cats out of her again because she couldn't push them out. We pulled 2 out and they seemed very healthy..they were crying and moving much more than the previous litter. We could still feel one inside her, but I had to go to my dad's house an hr away to visit him and my mom said she would take care of our cat. The next day she called me and told me that she had taken her to the vet and found out she had feline lukemia (which we had suspected but never knew for sure) and she wouldnt live long anyway...a couple months at most with drugs. My mom told me she had her put down. Later on when I was more stable my mom told me she never took her to the vet at all, and she sat there with Missy on the end of the bed and gave her an overdose of sleeping pills and stayed there with her in her lap till she died. My mom told me she was suffering and could not stand to see her suffer any more. I stayed with her babies and woke up all hours of the night feeding them every 2 hours for two weeks, but eventually they died too...we think they inherited the disease from their mother and eventually their immune systems failed them. The same day the last one died...I walked to a neighbors house and picked out one of their kittens. I did not want to replace them but I felt we needed something to fill the big hole in our hearts...and being able to take care of something else and love it seemed like the thing to do. I didn't pick any of the little kittens playing out in front of everyone. Nope, I picked the little anti-social imp hiding behind in the corner. She looked like my cat that had died...and she was really scared and looked like she had personality. I had to have her! Anyway, sorry this was so long, and sad...but that is how I ended up with my mama cat and her babies.

Oh, that is sad. I too tend to pick the runt of the litter or the under dogs. I like to try to nurse things back to health. It makes me feel so proud when I can give a sick or hurt animal another chance. I usually get my pets from the Humane Society. I adopted a cat from there once just because he looked so sick and he looked like he just wanted someone to care for him. So I did. He also had feline leukemia. He wouldn't eat or drink. I had to force-feed him with a medicine dropper. The vets gave me this gooey stuff that looked like mollasses. I guess it was some kind of kitty power bar. He died after a couple of months. At least I got to fill his last days on earth with love and attention. I think he died happy. It's such a bummer when stuff like that happens. Especially when they become such big parts of our families.
