Budding Mages

Posted Jul 22, 2007, 4:14:11 PM UTC

Two apprentice wizards in the woods with their pet dragon. This was done as part of a series of commisions. Finished while listening to  Blind Gaurdian-Precious Jerusalem.

The dragon reference I used for this was from a painting by Bob Eggleton, thanks BOB!

Lloyd, this is so touching the way you have them posed. And of course the art work itself is excellent. I want that Dragon annd the staff.
Good work my friend. Corky Smile

Thank you Wayne, I had a photo reference to look at for their pose. I tweaked the way they were sitting and added everything else. I also used a reference picture for the dragon. I'm very happy you like it.Corky Smile

I think I've seen that dragon somewhere. Matter of fact, I'm almost positive I have.

The painting it came from...the one I'm thinking of had some books. The dragon was sitting on a window ledge, I think. There were skulls, too. I can't remember it that well. Bah. Slant

I do like this. Smile Very nice.

When I first read your comment I began to panic thinking I had forgotten to mention where I got the dragon from in my description as the original artist of the dragon (Bob) would of been peeved if I didn't credit him as I had promised. Whew!
Thank you for the wonderful comment Doll, i'm glad you liked this one. The original dragon pic I used for reference is by Bob Eggleton, I was stumped for a dragon design and he was kind enough to let me use his dragon. He's a great guy, you should see his work, its amazing.

Yeah, it was the fact that you mentioned referencing that sparked my attention. Laughing Then I got a better look at the dragon, and it hit me - I think I've seen this before!

I found what I think was Bob Eggleton's website, but it wasn't anything like the site I remember finding the painting I think I've seen this dragon before on. (WHEW! What a mouthful! Did you get all that? Laughing )

And so my journey began. And after much searching, I ask. Is THIS your dragon?

Yes, the dragon you found is the one I used. Its a great dragon and i'm just glad Mr Eggleton let me use it. I was lucky enough to meet him at a fantasy art exibit here in San Francisco and even luckier when he gave me permission.

Ah, the bark texture is wonderful! It's good to see you out in the open again, my friend. (I'm one to talk, aren't I?)

    Lovely art yet again.

I've never been far, luv. I'm just in the middle of some really big life changes right now. Smile Nothing bad, I just have to stick more to moderating than to commenting everywhere. You know you can find me here whenever you want to talk, yes?
        Love always!

They are, Lloyd - my life changes are wonderful, as long as I can find some place to live in September....

I have a new job coming up for eight months, I'm getting good grades, Jon still loves me, and all the world is beautiful. Ah! The beams of summer.

Hi Dennis! Haven't seen you post work here in a while. This is a great piece. I hope you got compensated well for this piece.
    • Jul 27, 2007, 6:22:47 AM UTC
Thanks BG, I don't post as often as I used to anymore as i've been swamped with work and also I had to take a two month break from drawing. I had broken my fingers in an industrial accident at work. Oh and I was compensated very well for thisone. Thank you for the compliment.
      • Jul 27, 2007, 9:34:46 AM UTC
Oh my goodness! I'm sorry to hear about your hands. I'm glad you are back to drawing though
        • Jul 31, 2007, 2:42:21 PM UTC
Thanks BG, I only broke the fingers in my right hand but boy was it painful. The good thing is that now that its healed there doesn't seem to be any side effects. My drawing is almost back to normal.
