"Sandpiper"

Posted Jul 30, 2007, 6:06:39 AM UTC

This is a painting I did a couple years ago.   I was remembering a favorite beach of mine in Massachusetts...a wild little place called HorseNeck Beach.  That ended up being the background for my beachcombing fairy.

What else can I say?  I was going through a phase where all I wanted to do was paint pretty girls & slap butterfly wings on them.

Watercolor on cold press D'Arches paper.

Thanks! Those are spangled frittilary wings...I'm into the details. I think good fantasy art should have elements of nature because it adds a sense of reality to something that's otherwise utterly unreal.

What a wonderfully soft painting style you have - perfect for this scene. You've managed to capture the feeling of the sunlight dancing through the landscape.

Thank you! I wanted it to look bright and breezy...the way that beach often does IRL. Watercolors were made for capturing New England landscapes, IMO.
