Imprisoned

My first major attempt at greyscale, and I'm happy with the result, particulary their hair. There's symbolism in this piece regarding the ur...relationship...between Lael and Gaulzen. And Gaulzen does not have wings normally, and I thought they good on him. Not to mention the symbolism again. Can you figure it out what it means? :D

Done in graphite pencils

I like this piece, it exudes a lot of feeling. The problem I have with it, is that it is too light. In order to be more eye-catching, you need to go the full range of values. This one and all the others suffer from a true lack of really nice dark values. If you don't want to ink it, you can work with a softer pencil or charcoal to give you those nice dark darks. I hope to see more of your work, thanks for sharing it with us.

Heh, my art teacher said the same thing about me and lacking dark values. I'll try to improve the one I'm currently working before I submit it. And thank you for the tip, and critiqueing. I really appriciate it.

Love the imagery and composition you have going in this piece. His wings seem to be wrapping themselves around him in a very protective manner, and the chain suggests a master-slave relationship. You have done well with your first attempt at greyscale! It is a very difficult form to master, but you are definitely on the right track. The one suggestion I would leave you with is to try, once you get to this stage, making the shadows darker. You could use a softer pencil or just more presuure to achieve this (I suggest a softer pencil though, as it's less likely to wreck your picture, and easier to erase if a mistake is made).
Again - you've got a wonderful beginning here - I hope to see you develop it even further! Yes

Thank you very much! Big Smile I will attempt the darkening the shadowing next time I do a greyscale. Even my art teacher told me not to be afraid to darken something. Again, thank you!
