This was a commission peice. I have never actually SEEN this anime apart from just a few episodes. (I'm not a fan of fight/Shounen Animes) But ya know, a commish is a commish and GOOGLE is great for finding reference shots for characteristics. (Not that they look much like the originals... I have a THING about proper anatomy and DBZ is the WORST for anatomy and geometric shapes posing as HAIR... *shiver* So here's *MY* version of Gohan and Trunks...

I hear you about the whole 'out of proportion' thing, but to be quite honest, even though DB/Z/GT haven't got the prettiest style of anime, it certainly has character that has pioneered anime's direction. Akira's style was the start of a more blocky style, that once a few artists tried it and perfected it, it was a totally different look. For me, the whole fanasm for drawing DBZ wasn't the whole 'They look so hot' thing, it was that the characters were cool, the dynamics was cool, and the good guys looked UBBER strong, which made the DB world much more believable.
In the end, I see the point with anatomy, but most comic artists are like that *waves hand* I know I slaughter proportions for my art.
Oh- the gravity thing? I don't think hair has gavity in the DB world XD I swear- Vegeta and Gokous hair is NOT possible. I tend to think of Gohan's as more of a geled look- you know, knincked up and stuff?
Yeah, I know its sucks to convert- You don't need to convince me! XD *slabbys the anti gravity feild on DB hair*
Yeah, I can see what you mean about the hair thing on DBZ lol. This is pretty cool, Gohan and Trunks look much realler now that they have TRUE hair and the correct muscular frame. The idea I guess by the artist for DBZ, is to make the characters seemingly Muscular buff with all the strength they have to carry around on there for their Kamehameha's n' what not. But this is a neat idea to make their anatamoy actually drawn in the right way. Cool!
What I meant, is style in general. I don't think the art style has anything to do with plot.
Like DBZ, Yu-gi-oh, One Piece... Shounen "chunky" style anime art tends to not give much thought to anatmoy in general. It's a "Style"
(And just one I'm not very fond of, and really have never been since childhood. Been watching anime about 25 years now, and I've always gravitated to a more realisric shoujo style.).
Your submission is posted to our site but it hasn't yet been added to an Art RPG queue for point counting, approval, and/or reward redemption. Submit it to the queue to get your rewards.
