Oh man, the story behind this thing.... This ended up being my final project for my maquette class at school. I had been working on this ultra elaborate sculpture of Odin and Sleipnir, but it got left in my car overnight and the heat half baked the ornery thing, so I ended up making this sculpture overnight to fill my three sculpture quota. I ended up taking it out of the oven, putting it on pot holders on my car seat, letting it cool while I drove to class, and painting it during our final meeting. In some ways I like this one better though. I mucked up the face. In the original sketch she has a cocky half smile, but the sculpture looks more worried. Still, I am quite fond of her.

Materials:

  • Sculpy over wire and foil skeleton
  • Pre-made wooden base
  • Painted with Apple acrylics and detailed with colored pencil.

Total time: 12-ish hours

Sketch: thumb

Thanks. I wasn't either until I took a class. It helped a lot to have someone sit down and walk me through the process.

I got lucky. My college offered a class that I could take as an elective.

Very nice work. She seems like an interesting character, I hope you got a good mark on your final project. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Actually, the teacher wasn't big on passing out grades, because he felt (and I agree) that letter grades are not the most helpful things when evaluating art. He had to have put something down for the final grade because the school required it, but as it was my last semester at college, I never actually looked to see what it was. I'll I know is that I got my degree, so I didn't fail. I did talk to him about the sculpture quite a bit and he seemed to like it. So I assume all was well.
