Paper Demon watercolor doodle

Made with Painter IX and Wacom Cintiq.

So this is for PD theme week. I appologize for not doing something more than just a little doodle. But I've been busy with some more...er... serious doodles at work.

Work has been crazy lately. At work our team has been busilly working on a set of illustrations. I've been working until midnight every work day. All night long I toss and turn and dream that I'm still working! Er... I can't give more details than that but I hope you see them and I hope you enjoy them. Ok so that was cryptic but those who know where I work will understand.

Seriously, I have not had quality sleep in a while. And I'll be working pretty hard for the next couple weeks. I can't wait for the olympics to be over.

I've always wanted to get better with painter but often times the preset tools weren't working for me. I didn't find out until today that there are like hundreds of settings you can tweak if you go to Window > Brush Controls. My boss told me about it since we are using painter for our illustrations. Finally I can get better control of my brushes! Now I just need to figure out how to save them. I tried creating a custom palette and I've been using that for a while now. But the custom palette doesn't save all your settings to your brush, at least mine doesn't. Any Painter users have some suggestions for me?

I know how you feel on that one. Back when I used to work at Mickey d's I used to dream about making the sandwiches. One dream I had to convince this fat guy who'd been eating big macs all his life that he was making them wrong. It was horrible! I could smell the sweat and everything! and God, don't get me started on the Moobs!

lol! dreaming about bigmacs...hmm.. that doesn't sound so bad ROFL

Uggh. Believe me, it was horrible. I don't even like big macs. We call them big and nasty for a reason. The "special sauce" is nothing more than a combination of ketchup, mustard, tartar sauce, and mayo. wooo. really special.

ahhh don't ruin it for me. i like big macs! but i feel sick after i eat most fast food now so i don't eat at mc donalds that often anymore.
i figured the special sauce was at least a mix of ketchup and mayo. i didn't know about the tartar sauce or mustard though.

oh yeah. you could totally make your own mac at home with much less grease, and probably less sickness. It goes like this from top to bottom: top bun(toasted), sauce, onions, lettuce, pickle, meat patty, middle bun(toasted), sauce, onions, lettuce, pickle, meat patty, bottom bun(toasted).
voila! You have your very own, made at home big mac. BTW: if you actually try to make this, let me know how it turns out.

whats the recipe for the sauce? is it equal parts everything?
              • Aug 12, 2008, 8:28:14 PM UTC
I think so. The part that's mustard needs to be on the light side though. I just remember the sauce guns gave out the right amounts. Umm. lets see. Portion size, the mayo was the biggest, tartar was next in amount, then ketchup, and mustard was the smallest.

Unfortunately, it's been a long time since I've used Painter (as in, years), so I don't know about the brushes.

I DO know that I love how you get such a startling watercolor-like look out of it. Big Smile Even for a doodle, it's totally lovely. <3

Thanks for the comments hurricaneislandheart (do you have a nickname?). it almost kinda looks like you could use the watercolors in painter to mimic copic markers. i'd like to give that a try some time.

You're welcome! You can shorten my name however you like - the most common one people use on other forums/sites is "HIH." XD When I went by "Lady Macbeth" people just called me "LM" or "Mac," so I'm cool with anything. XD

I know that the watercolor effect in Photoshop looks a lot like markers if you use a chisel-shaped tip and make sure the settings are set for crisp lines and you don't bleed the edges too much. I'm sure Painter's not that far off - and that would be a sweet way to do Copic Marker-style art digitally.

For a doodle it's quite breathtaking, the colors you used give it a soft glow, it's excellent work ^^

    'Serious Doodles' sounds kinda naughty?

Looks great for a quick doodle!
