Snake Charmer

This took me about five days (4 or mroe hours everyday) to colour from start to finish.  The actual sketch took maybe two days, and about an hour to ink it.  I think I'm going to go to the trouble of inking most of my work from now on. It certainly has an aesthetic appeal to it.  This was inspired by the theme week "Something wicked this way comes." and was drawn on the last day of the contest, but I wasn't quite done so I didn't bother rushing through it to try and submit it.

Whole time I was colouring it I was listening to Nox Arcana (helped set the mood) listening mostly to the album "Blood of Angels" (I love your voice Michelle!) but also listened to  the albums "Carnival of Lost Souls" and "Phantoms of the High Seas."  I aimed for a moody, slightly gothic feel to piece, with a touch of old Victorian.

There's a few things I'm generally proud of: the boa constrictor for one thing, I am very proud of that.  The shading on her skin also, I'm happy with.  Looking back though, I'm starting to think that the shadows should have more reddish, instead of purple, undertones.  Suggestions?

Awesome picture overall! Colors are gorgeous. Really, I just have to second 626elemental's critique. The patterns are lovely, and the scales on the boa look very cool. No belly scales on it though, but that may have been intentional. Love this lots. Smile

Thank you so much! And I did add scales on the bottom but the layer setting didn't let them show up.

I like the concept of this! Anatomically it's pretty good, but watch out for her neck; it is very thick and short. Also her forearm is a bit too short and her hand too small. You put a lot of good detail and design into her costume. The folds in her shirt are well-done, but the ones in her skirt seem almost random.... I'd suggest using a reference. I like the technique you used to make the feathers fluffy Smile

I find the shading on the skirt in itself fine, but the ink lines area little messed I think. I got a little too heavy with the lines when I was inking.

And which forearm is a little too short? And I always have a problem with hands lol

And I'm glad you like the feathers. ^-^

The one supporting the snake is a tad too short... the other one's fine Smile
