Very lovely. I wouldn't have the patience for all that detail. @_@
    • Oct 21, 2008, 8:50:44 AM UTC
      Thank you!
There was I time when I didn't have the patience either, but I found that I liked my drawings much much more when I forced myself to take my time on them... So now I'm stuck continually drawing little details on my work. Laughing
  • Jul 13, 2007, 9:19:44 AM UTC
Wow.. you did that entire thing in mechanical pencil?? That's amazing. :O
    • Jul 13, 2007, 10:36:10 AM UTC
      Thank you!

Yes, my medium of choice is the mechanical pencil. Cheap, easy to use, and can get into the details. Plus, I can get multiple pencils with different lead softness if I want to.

      Thanks for the comment!

I love mechanical pencil, but I know it takes a lot of work and dedication, especially for something as detailed as this.

Robin, you've always known I think that your one of my favorite artists second only to Michael Whelan. I count myself as fortunate to know you as I forsee you becoming one of the greats one day. This piece just leaves me taking a deep breath in awe.
    • Dec 7, 2005, 4:22:40 PM UTC
O.O One of the greats? I don't know if I have the motivation. It's taking me forever to get a suitable portfolio made up... And I need to start actually making money so I can go to conventions and such just to get myself established perhaps as an illustrator. *sigh* But there's always the dream.

You are so good to me. Reading your comments always makes me smile, my friend.
      • Dec 10, 2005, 10:47:53 AM UTC
I'm just glad I was not forgotten and a smile from you always puts me in a good mood.

    • Oct 23, 2005, 10:02:25 AM UTC
Yes, this one will be on the Paper Demon store if we can get that running. I've made a journal with her on it. I've prepared a lot of journals, actually.. I just have to send them to Susie. Smile Thank you for your support, Kichi!

Personally I like it when somebody has more then one style, if you know what I mean. Some artists stick too much with one topic or style, which makes their work sometimes a bit 'static' and predictable. I think that the best artists have many ways of making their artworks, and still manage to have their own style.
So go on and keep surprising me (or sould I say 'us'Wink ^^
    • Oct 5, 2005, 7:27:55 PM UTC
Most artists I know don't have one 'style' so to speak.. but they do have a distinctly recognisable way of drawing. At least, they do if they want to be an individual artist... So I guess what I'm striving for ais a niche in which I am comfortable, that I might be able to have some kind of personal touch that sets me apart from most, if not all, of the talent around me. Smile

You're such a great drawer, your style is very natural, which I really appeciate. Keep this up!
    • Sep 25, 2005, 10:09:15 AM UTC
My style, like most budding artists', changes with my mood. We're all still coming into our own, and I am stillin the experimental stage. You have a lovely celtic style yourself, which I love. Thanks so much for the uplift! Grin

Although I liked all your works I think it's the best one! Heart
Looks like it's from one of those fantasy books, you could actually make a cover for one.
I think you're much better than me at this. *sighs*Blink
    • Sep 2, 2005, 11:07:49 AM UTC
LOL! Thanks very much for the vote of confidence. We, as artists, are always striving to improve. I hope someday I DO get to be an illustrator.
      • Sep 2, 2005, 11:19:28 PM UTC
Thanks for the support. Very Happy
Unfortunally I have little time to draw because my studies are time consuming, and it doesn't have anything to do with art. I still have a lot to learn. You're lucky, at least you can develop in that area. I mostly teach myself right now.
        • Sep 3, 2005, 12:29:33 AM UTC
*grin* I've been teaching myself, too. My particular schooling taught me mostly how to do abstract and political art - not at all what I really WANTED to learn. (I'm a little teeny bit bitter about that. Laughing ) Now I work a full time job, get home from that, and work more. My brain is starting to die again... Tongue Still - I have a goal that I'm determined to at least make a valid effort to reach. You must, too, with your studies. I think mainly it's that we each follow our own path to achieve that dream...

O.O This is awesome! I love the grass and trees, especially. Big Smile And I too wonder how the HECK you got a mech pencil to shade so nicely. Favorite
    • Aug 31, 2005, 5:31:47 PM UTC
Thanks very much! Wink I just posted a detail picture so that you guys might be able to see how I did it better. Big Smile
  • Aug 31, 2005, 5:02:59 PM UTC
MECHANICAL PENCIL!! WHAT!? O.O Not even MY mechanical pencil shading is so thoroughly smoothed and even O.O How the heck? uhhhh lol, you must teach me the art of your mech.pencil skills oh wise one, yup yup lol. I see the tree branch that had been looming over her, has been moved further up, I think it looks more natural that way too. The ledge of which the quiver of arrows is sitting upon is done real nicely, as well as the detail on the quiver itself. Just so much detail in this, and it really all looks so good Smile I could go on and on, but I'm not gonna hold your eyes here with that lol. So, I say EXCELLENT JOB! and gl on your next piece, I'm sure it's gonna be as good as this one ^^

Not much to teach, really. The only way I know of to show how I do things is the step-by-step Works in Progress that I've been posting. I tend to shade according to which texture I want, how smooth it has to be. The trees, for example, I would only draw using vertical lines. Her shin was shaded by very gently making tiny little spirals... It's just all dependent on what effect one wants to achieve.

And thanks so much for your vote of confidence! I hope I live up to the expectations. Wink

WOW it looks so great!!!! The shading and highlights, the rounding of the forms... so very advanced! Looks fantastic! I bet the person who commissioned it will be thrilled! Just awesome work!!!!

Well, my mother commissioned it as a gift for a friend. She's thrilled enough that she doesn't want to give it away, if that counts. Laughing I'm glad you think so very highly of the drawing, luv! Embarrassed

I wish I could see her face too.. But I won't be there. Tongue I'll be working in the kitchen at the airport. Laughing Still, mom will relay everything she says, I'm sure. I'm quite excited for whenever my mommy gets home tonight, actually.

Thanks for always being here for me, my love. I'm glad I have you. Wink (and Mal and Lloyd, of course. They are wunnerful to me too, and I love them)
      • Aug 31, 2005, 10:54:11 PM UTC
Of course I will always be here for you my love. There is nowhere else I would rather be. And I know Lloyd and Mal love you to pieces too. And you will have to let me know what your mom's friend thought about the picture okay? All my love.
        • Sep 1, 2005, 8:35:57 PM UTC
Apparently she cried a little bit (out of happiness) and told my mother that it was deifintely one of the best presents she could have gotten. And then mom got a big hug, and the recipient called her husband and made him come up to see it, and then she took the picture everywhere to show it to people around the office... So I think it was well-appreciated. One down, three to go.
          • Sep 1, 2005, 11:38:41 PM UTC
That is so awesome Robin. I knew she would love it. Honestly... who wouldn't love your drawings? I am so glad that your work is getting all the attention that it deserves. All my love.
