Oath of the Sons

Final project for my Drawing class. Project assignment description:

Currently, there are some artists who have been described as "post-modern." A component of post-modern is appropriation.

For this assignment, create a 18” x 24” drawing (or its equivalent size) that “appropriates” some aspect of a “famous” painting, drawing or print. (A separate handout, has such an example of Edvard Munch’s “The Scream”.) Also, the drawing is to utilize negative shape.

Things to remember:

1. Some collage may be used

2. The completed work may be color or b & w

3. Use drawing materials of your choice

4. This assignment counts double (2 assignments)

5. Negative space and appropriation, (famous art work)

6. On the back attach a computer printed narrative that provides information about the selected work: artist, date, title, etc. (There should be narrative information about the artist, art, etc.)

7. This is due Friday, May 8th. Be prepared to discuss your work in class that day.

8. Provide a photo image of your original source (attached on back)

So, here we have it - double appropriation: "Oath of the Horatii" by Jacques-Louis David ( Oath of the Horatii ) and Dragon Ball Z by Akira Toriyama. :D

nice idea. you cought the composition from the original nicely.
I think some textures would give your pic more life, it looks a little flat.
proportions of the characters look fine.
