Shipmates

"I dunno. I just can't figure why you gotta be so hard on yourself. Ain't like you get to choose who strikes your fancy."
"There's always a choice. You wouldn' understand."
"Mal, I got a list long as my arm of things I don't understand about you."

This is a relationship I don't draw much, but an interesting one. Louie basically considers her shipmates her family and, being the nice sort of person she is, wants to see them happy. She makes a real effort to reach out to Malcolm, because he's in a pretty perpetual state of discontent, and because she can sort of sympathize when it comes to being attracted to the "wrong" people.

Malcolm, conversely, is a little uncomfortable with her, partially because she is so at ease with herself. Once in a while, they end up here, passing the night out on the deck. They drink. Louie does most of the talking. Occasionally Malcolm opens up a little, but it's rare. And sometimes they don't part ways and go to bed till the sun's coming up.

(side note: I am fairly sure there's a correlation between Malcolm's longer-than-usual, ponytailed hair, and the fact that I've been watching a lot of LOST lately and am enamored with Sayid, who bears a rather striking resemblance to our boy Mal and is often ponytailed himself.)
