This is an art piece I did for my Mom for her birthday. I put it on a CafePress journal.
Anyway the whole Elves at Work thing is this business my Mom and I have been working on on and off for a while.
This was drawn in pencil, scanned, and colored in Photoshop. To create the celtic motif I basically traced some royalty free artwork from a Dover Book. I changed it though. The original design is line work, I actually changed it to be shapes instead of line. Then I scanned it and turned that set of shapes into a Mask in Photoshop and then painted with a spongy textury brush to make it look almost like a dry print or stamp or something. I also gave the background some texture and color variance with various Photoshop brushes. I didn't want the journal to just have a flat color background because that would just end up looking ugly.
Anyway, he's pretty cute, ain't he? What do you think?

BogusRed (Reply)Total Posts: 2854Oct 15, 2005 12:16 pmI did the Celtic knots with the help of a Dover book that has royalty free artwork in it. Artists can use them without limits for art projects. Essentially I traced them and then added some effects to it to make it look sort of aged. --- |

SaikonoYume (Reply)Total Posts: 316Oct 15, 2005 2:24 pmThat's neat! I need to get a book like that. I tried drawing Celtic knots by hand three years ago for an art project. It didn't work. There is a way you can make knot work with photoshop and words. It's a spiffy effect. --- That which fell from the sky was not rain

It really looks like something from a book. The inky lines are great. And yes, that little boy is just so cute! I think the green tones are your trademark.^^ Really lovely. I wish I had more of that... decorative style in my works. ---

His face is adorable, and I like the way you have positioned the fingers on the hand he is waving, with the two fingers together. I like all the celtic design work, and I like how you have drawn his staff with the twist in the middle and the knotwork on the end.
