Shojo

Posted Aug 8, 2012, 6:11:30 PM UTC

Random happy shojo girl. I was reading Sakura Hime and decided to go back to drawing a little shojo. I've been drawing mostly bishojo lately, though my main style is shojo(I think it's mainly because I tend to draw women with huge jahoobs), so getting back to my basics is what I decided to do. There are a few things I don't like about this piece but I want to see if others agree with me in comments and the like before I actually state what I don't like.

I do like her hair though. Turned out really well from what I had in mind :D

Lemme know what you think pwease! :P

I could tell you if I think you're crazy if you tell me what you don't like. If it's a new style for you though, I'd be very un inclined to give you critique about it till you've used the style a few more times. The artist usually knows when they don't like something. IF they don't, then they should improve on it. After the artist is happy, THAT is when you should get opinions Smile

The things I generally don't like are the kimono I have her wearing. It's just a bit to loud, however unless I were to meticulously erase every yellow spot on there, I couldn't get rid of them. GIMP changed their undo button, so you can't always undo a shit ton of times like it used to be.

It used to be I could try something, and if I didn't like it, undo the crap outta it and go back to the way it was before so I can try something else. It seems I can't do that now. And all I really wanted rid of was the yellow spots on the kimono.

There's almost always something I don't quite like about a picture, however once I've finished it for the most part, there is now little I can do about it most times. GIMP is awesome, but it seems they're changing it and it almost feels like they're tightening the reins on what used to be something allot free-er....

However despite what I don't like, I think the whole thing turned out quite well. It almost perfectly matches the idea I had in my head, and that makes me happy Smile

Sorry about the late reply- this has been a busy month for me T.T

I'm not familiar with GIMP, but if your linearts are on a different larger then just colour over them. Or perhaps make use of them being there by putting some ornate white flowers over them. See, they thing is that they go with the hair so I'm inclined to leave it. You could always flood fill with the pink colour on the yellow. I'm sure that there's a way to get rid of it Smile Perhaps next time do uncertain details on a new layer?

I don't find the kimono too loud though. It's a fun colour and it matches her expression. If it's too busy, I'd say brush over it with the same hot pink, but it's fine how it is to me Smile

GIMP used to have almost unlimited undo's, so it would save you from having to use the eraser, and now instead it doesn't seem to be the case.

I definitely haven't done enough experimenting with the GIMP program, especially after the update that changed so much Smile

Thanks for your feedback Big Smile It helps so much Smile
