The fate of Hal Jordan

This was done for DCU Big Bang- an exchange on Livejournal that I found out about on Tumblr where you draw a picture based on a fanfic. My fan fic I chose was a story about Jillian Pearlman, aka Cowgirl, a side character in the reboot Green Lantern stuff in Hal Jordan's arcs, and her telling of the reboot Green Lantern storyline, with her becoming a Green Lantern at the end (rather than Simon Baz... I assume this was written before it was announced who was taking Hal's ring)

:star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star::star:

The story's description:-

Title: We have not yet touched the stars (working title)

Genre: action/adventure

Fandom/Universe: Green Lantern (comics)

Characters/Pairings: Jillian "Cowgirl" Pearlman, Jillian Pearlman/Hal Jordan, Hal Jordan Carol Ferris (mentioned)

Warnings: attempted non-con, torture

Summary: Jillian Pearlman of Earth. You have the ability to overcome great fear.

She's been called plenty of things in her life - Jill, Jilly, Pearlman, Captain, Cowgirl - but Green Lantern is certainly a new one. Jillian Pearlman, from when she first knew she wanted to fly, to when she earns her wings as Earth's newest Green Lantern. And of course she's scared, she's terrified, but she was made to be in the air and there's no challenge she won't back down from.   (Canon-compliant through most of Green Lantern vol. 4 and Green Lantern vol. 5, not including issue #0.)

Anyways, my picture happens right at the end of the story where Jillian plays back Hal's death. It was a scene that interested me cause it had alot going on artistically with all the black lantern activity and the yellow lantern exploding and stuff. I wanted to try out a picture with more inking. Not sure if people will like the attempt, but I gave it a go ^^; >.> Urghhh... Lanterns are made of explodium? XD

    This looks cool!
    Still not much familiar with the GL characters, but I think I recognize the guy with the stern look and pointy ear from a cartoon I saw ("Emerald Knights" I think). is it also the girl who the Green Lantern main character guy started to teach.. some phyisics student I think in that story...
    Anyway, are you going to make a comic maybe? O.O
    I'd be interested in it. =D

      The guy with the pointy ears is Hal Jordan's arch nemesis Sinestro. The girl is a reasonably new character that works with Hal. She's Jillian Pearlman aka 'Cowgirl'. Unless you read the comics, I don't think you'd know of her. She was a love interest for Hal at one point. I'm not sure who the physics student is that you're referancing... Could you mean Arisia? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arisia_Rrab She's a blond Green Lantern that Hal has a 'thing with' (Don't ask cause she's meant to look like a teenager O.o ). Cowgirl doesn't pop up in the voice actor's list for the cartoon so I don't think it's her... Good on you for seeing ti though Smile I haven't XD I'll have to look it up!

      I'm not making it into a comic, but I can link the fanfic if you're interested Smile

        Ah I see. Don't know him then.. ^^'
        Also... I looked the link but it didn't seem for me it was she. But then I looked up this link about the Emerald Knights and it says it IS she.. XD;
        http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Lantern:_Emerald_Knights
        I didn'T reember pointy ears and her skin and eyes looked quite normal for me. Then again I missed the begining so I could miss some info as well. ^^'

        Uhm... I was considering but I'm affraid it wouldn't be much use of it. I have no idea about the characters backgrounds, relationship or even recognize them by name. I'm affraid I wouldn't understand even half of it. =(
        But thanks ^^

          IT's a bit hard to get into something when it's that far through I must admit ^^; DC has just done a major reboot in the last year, but not all the series have gotten better from it so I'm reluctant to recomment it Sad Hal Jordan has a fantastic writer though, Geoff Johns. You may be able to read it at your library. It's the green lantern title, but the New 52 stuff. They're at issue 15 or so right now so it'd be easy to catch up. IT wouldn't help you with fanfiction though (alternatively, I think most of the new 52 is up on http://free-comics-database.blogspot.co.nz/ This site if you have a CBR reader. You can download one for free. )

          IT's something anyways Smile Sorry that I'm posting alot of fanart right now. Life has been super busy for over 4 months and I do art to stress release right now. T.T Hopefully it'll be over soon when I get a flat.

    Nice work! IMHO, if you're drawing western-style comics, there's no such thing as too much ink.

      Oh- there is XD Eastern comics aren't immune to it either. It's not about the amount of ink, it's how it's used. I've seen alot of ink heavy eastern comics though. Mostly shounen ones. Guys like comics heavy on the ink. Shojo ones tend to be delicate.
