Life in Shadow

I have so many pieces of art in my backlog that it's hard to pick what to post next. So here's Rune, one of the leads in the fantasy novels I'm writing, because I draw him most! Though he went by a different name at that point in life.   In a world dominated by mages, he's an unfortunate example of what happens when magic goes wrong. Free of the barriers that keep normal mages from tapping more power than they can handle, his uncontrollable magic twisted him into a monster at the moment of his birth. Ashamed of what he is, his family pressures him to hide, which only makes him more desperate to create a place for himself in a world that's inhospitable to people who are different.   It is a bit older of a drawing, but it's still one I'm pretty fond of, even if it's stil a little rough. ^^

It's all digital, actually ^^ I drew it in Photoshop and added texture from a scanned piece of paper.

I like this character. I have a similar character that's a human with dragon hands, feet and tail but I haven't drawn him in a long time.

Sounds like you have a good back story for your character. I was never good at that.

I've always loved the lizardy ones! Maybe you should revisit your character some time, I'd like to see. :3

I actually consider myself a writer first and an artist second. I love drawing, but I really only started learning so I could do illustrations for the books I want to write. I've always felt it really helps a story when you have clear visuals of the people in it.

Sounds very interesting. Love the detail in this, his claws and the dagger look so sharp and the shading looks amazing.

Thank you! I like working in grayscale best because it lets me focus on the details without getting distracted by color.
