Lotor practice

Doing an exchange soon about Lotor and Shiro from Voltron, and I realised I hadn't drawn Lotor much yet so I thought I'd redraw some screen caps to figure out how I draw him. I'm not there yet, but it helped a little :D

Oh handsome fellow, isn't he. I like the expression of the one in the top left especially

HAHAH! Yeah Big Smile Lotor is pretty handsome, and he's complex cause we don't know if he's wanting to help the good guys, or if he's manipulating them D:

I think I like that one the most too. It's certainly the easier expression to draw.

I haven't seen the newer series, but I always loved Lotor in the original. He was always #1 hottest for me! Great work, as always. Smile

OK, so I actually recommend it. Like... strongly do so. It's a homage to the original, so don't expect the same plot. The premise is the same, but a lot of things are changed. Lotor has changed a lot, IMHO for the better. I use to think he was hot, but his relationship with Allura was super creepy. They expanded the characters out a lot, made the plot way more intriguing, and added a heap of original lore to it. Now, I don't know how Voltron compares to Golion, as I only saw the American version, but in comparison to what I saw which was a bastardized version of Golion, that's my thoughts. Original Voltron still has it's merits, but this remake is really good. I'd highly recommend giving it a go Smile Lotor takes a few seasons to pop up though if you're watching it for him. I really love the changes that they've made and don't want to give any of it away <3

I never liked Golion, but I enjoyed Voltron for what it was. I don't know if I'd watch the newer one, but I feel sure I'd at least recommend it to a friend of mine who always loved everything Voltron AND Golion! Big Smile Especially with your glowing recommendation! It is wonderful that they seem to have taken a respectful tone and integral approach to the original material. It's so rare to see that happen!

It's a VERY different story to the original. I'd suggest giving it a go. The characters are more diverse and have their own arcs. Don't expect the characters to be the same as before, but they base it off the original. It's a really good tribute I think. It has great heart and it's fun, with tones of danger and lore Smile

Hi arkillian Smile You say it isn't there quite yet, but I really like the expressions you captured in this study. Definitely feels alive to me!

Thank you! What I mean is that I don't think this is where I'll be with drawing Lotor. It doesn't feel right yet. Part of that is cause I'm nursing an ankle injury right now so I have a lot of aches and drama from that. The final version might not be too different from this version, but to me it'll be how I draw him. I'll see how it looks. Voltron has a very sharp art style, while I'm more like a wave, with curls to a point style. I need to translate that, and it can take a little while before I figure it out Smile Thank you thoguh!

Ahh, I completely understand Smile this is kind of what spurred me to draw again, and start with something like Disgaea fan art lol. It is always a great exercise to try and draw in a style different than your own, adopting it to your own hand. Drawing Usalia and Red Magnus was so far beyond my comfort it was a huge stretch for me but ultimately helped me review my own style (with the added benefit of a muscle study I otherwise may not have done Wink ). Bummer about the injury, hope you are on the mend!

Sorta. My physio has asked me to cut back on my exercises to twice a week cause I'm having issues with walking. Like... I'm stronger, but I'm in a lot of pain. I think it's cause I was over stretching my calf muscles. I'm not good at judging when I'm doing too much with stretches. This week I'm taking it easy, and seeing if my leg strengthens up and stops hurting to walk. I may have to cut back to this permanently if it's what I need to function. Hopefully not. I want to be back to going to the gym again soon Smile

Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that Sad well, hopefully we can all be here for you on your road to better health and more beautiful, expressive art to come. I have been there myself to an extent, I had knee surgery oh gosh 4 years back now? Oddly enough, terrible bellydance exercise videos helped me gain most of my flexibility and strength back, but my left leg has never been the same. I did walk on the damage for two years after the initial injury, though. Highly I'll advised to say the least lol.

Oh- I think my brain was in the place of it's not how Lotor looks in my head. IT's ok though, cause later art I did had the Lotor vibe I wanted <3
