BrethesenTotal Posts: 453Jul 26, 2004 12:14 pmwith no offence, but he has been too many times at the shrink from my point of view... --- Where I am bound, time is not measured in years. And the crimes I have committed are stronger than any cage... |

BogusRed (Reply)Total Posts: 2864Aug 7, 2004 11:27 amthank you. If you want to get better at porportions, you need to do a very rough sketch of the whole figure first before getting into detail. That might be why your porportions are off. But don't worry to much about it. We all make porportional mistakes. --- Help me squarsh bugs |

Brethesen (Reply)Total Posts: 453Aug 8, 2004 6:31 amI do not know why, but i'm always paying attention on small details, before looking at the great picture... It is just me though. --- Where I am bound, time is not measured in years. And the crimes I have committed are stronger than any cage... |

BogusRed (Reply)Total Posts: 2864Aug 8, 2004 9:59 amIt's not just you. That's the way everyone ends up learning to draw. When you go to a good art school though, you unlearn all of that. You learn how to do things like gesture drawings and squinting so that you look at the overall picture before getting into details. Your problem is in no way unique. It is the same problem faced by all artists not schooled in traditional drawing. You may want to try squinting. Squint ALL THE TIME when you draw. Don't stop squinting ever. It keeps you from zooming in on the details. It always works for me. I have made it into a habit, I'm always squinting when I draw. Eventually it will become natural for you to squint and your drawings will be much better for it. --- Help me squarsh bugs |

Brethesen (Reply)Total Posts: 453Aug 8, 2004 10:58 pmErrm... Ahem... I'm more to poems than pictures... And i have noticed that several of my finnish poems are too long just because of my natural(?) habit to stick with those small details. It actually ruins them. --- Where I am bound, time is not measured in years. And the crimes I have committed are stronger than any cage... |
