Hoshi WIP

Posted Jan 25, 2006, 9:15:09 AM UTC
This is a request I'm working on for karanakaou karanakaou of her original character Hoshi. She wanted her to be in a tortured pose and this is what I came up with. I drew this on Christmas day but didn't get far with the coloring and decided to work on it tonight.

:cries: I start school in less than 24 hours.

I'm stuck at this point. I don't really want to do a background but that flat color just seems too flat. Any suggestions? All comments appreciated.

I think the pose is great. What medium did you use? Maybe the background could contain some hint of the light source which is illuminating the character from the bottom left?

This is pencil colored in photoshop. I still haven't gotten around to finishing this darn thing. But yeah some sort of splash of light in the background might work.

      Thank you Smile

Colored in Photoshop? Really? Wow - I totally thought it was done in pastels or something lol

Thank you Lili Big Smile Heidi wanted it to have a tortured feeling to it and I think it has that feeling.

    Just had an idea,
In the song I sent you, it has a line that sings "Too many clouds in my sky today". Does that help any?

Excellent pic! I love the coloring- maybe a dark hallway lit up at the end for a background, that wouldn't take too much time, you think? anyway, good luck! Grin

I'll have to agree with Stealth Nerd... this is definately bad a**! I think this might be my fave of all your drawings so far. Just one thing I see that kinda has me questioning though. I think her breasts look alittle flat not in the sense that she's falt chested but the lighting maybe gives it that flat look. It may just be the way you highlighted it but that's really the only thing I see that's alittle weird. About the BG I really suck at backgrounds so i have no clue what kind of bg you should do . maybe a cloud filter in the back with a gradient or spot light down in the corner. I dunno something like that but awesome awesome job though Smile

I know what you mean about the breasts. I was hoping no one would notice but that never happens lol. Yeah I'm so bad at doing breasts for some reason. So i'll have to see if I can fix the lighting on them to make them look better.

It looks great! How about using a gradient tool? Like...make it darker on the edges and have it grow lighter as it comes to the center. The color choice is good! Corky Smile I hope that helped a little bit. XD

Thank you Majinbulgeta. BTW, I love your icon. Goku looks so cute and funny in that picture.

Perhaps a radial gradient for the background? Maybe suggesting the light source with it?

This is looking great so far, though, BR - but then your works always do.

Thanks Robin. Yeah Stealth Nerd had the same idea with a sunburst effect. I'll give it a try.

This is cool, Susie!! I really like the writhing anger and torment pose she's got going on ^_^ BTW, she looks totally badarse, Heidi! Laughing
I personally think a watercolor-type background would just downplay the effect of her image (no offense to anyone intended!), and action lines might possibly be a bit harsh (again, no offense!)... but maybe something that won't overwhelm the subject and still is powerful on it's own... Maybe a sunburst type effect? Perhaps not with sunny colors, but maybe a sunburst-type motif emenating from behind the character, kind of framing her, but in dark colors, like a photo negative or something. But that's just my opinion, you might think of something better. Can't wait to see this finished!
Better quit before I write a novel... Tongue

Thanks Stealth Nerd. I'll play around with a sunburst effect as well as with soft action lines of sorts. I'm sure I can come up with something. I just want it to be subtle and, like you said, not take away from the main subject.

I've come to gush some more. Grin
I absolutely LOVE the way you've done her hair, and I think the action lines arkillian is speaking of might compete with the kind of splashed effect you have going. Maybe a background like you have in Art thumbnail , ooo, or even Art thumbnail .

Lines. Powerful action lines. They will give her movement, anger, and dynamic Smile Something directional atleast ^^
