The Hero Link - Take me away

Posted Jul 24, 2004, 9:46:39 AM UTC
I did this drawing really quick today with pencil and colored it with Photoshop. I love the look of the reddish linework against the greens, yellows, and blues. I really like the color. I'm trying to push myself in a new direction and I like where I'm going with this. More to come!

Very nice. I like the movement of the body and the flow of the hair.

yeee its the paper demon banner picture you used! ... don't know why I felt like stating that but I did Sweat Drop

for some reason my favorite part is the blue shadows you used in his hair and his expression
    • Aug 4, 2005, 8:26:09 PM UTC
yeah i like the blue and the expression too. I like the color more than anything in this drawing. I think I got the idea for the blue from a Kingdom Hearts illustration.

He looks like he's floating... Mmm, this picture is so very calming. (Probably why it's your avatar?) I love the dreamy feeling it radiates.

Thank you for your comments. I need to get around to doing more artwork like this.

You know what I like best about your art work? I think it's all of the earthy tones that you use. I haven't ever seen an artist with your unique style before. You bring something fresh and new to the art world and you should definately be proud of that. I'm glad you picked this one to use as your avatar. I love the expression on his face. He seems to be so carefree. Great job!

Ohhhh...this is really cool. It has a very dreamy feel too it. I love the colors, the serene expresison on his face, and I really like all those little white twinklie lights in the background. GREAT job! Smile

Thank you EBS. This is probably my favorite link drawing ever. Big Smile

Gee, I think this is my favorite of your drawings! It's got a great effect, and it doesn't mess with my perception of who Link is. The only, slight, LITTLE problem I see with this is (and I know I nitpick, but hey) that his hair and hat would go UP if he was falling down, which, by the look of the rest of him, he is. I'm sorry I seem to not like any of your pictures--I do. If I didn't, I wouldn't take the time to critique, right? Right. so, just FYI, I LIKE your stuff. I just like reviewing and nitpicking at things. Especially the stuff I love. When I can't find something to nitpick at, I feel a little dissatisfied. So, jsut to let you know, I've really enjoyed all this. I hope you get something out of this, too.

Wow Skire you've left me a lot of critiques. And I have no way of thanking you since you didn't leave your email address. =( Well if you ever get this message, thank you for all of the critiques. I like it when people point out the mistakes. That's how we learn.

Thanks! I wasn't sure you'd reply. I'm not as good or experienced as you, but I Do know what I like. Thanks again for replying (and no, you don't have to reply to this).

Unless he was just starting to fall. Then it would be like you'd drawn it. Hey, what do you think of the Wind Waker design? I thought that the monsters and items were a lot more subtle than in the other Zelda games, but the people were ugly as sin, therefore messing up the game for me. I could almost live with it if they just kept Link's feet, but they didn't. I think they subjuected him to Ganon's torture chamber:
      Ganon: Talk, you worm!
      Link: Never!
(Ganon proceeds to chop off Link's feet and inflate his head with a bicycle pump...)

Actually I hated the Wind Waker at first when I saw the first screen shots. I refused to buy it. Then my boyfriend got it and I watched at how amazing the animation was. For the first time, Link actually had expressions. It's the only Zelda game to date where Link actually has a personality. In the other games, his range of expression was so limited but the Wind Waker was really a step forward. I love the game for that and I also love the style of it as well. Link's face could be a little better but he's still cute.

Yeah. The monsters have this really nice subtly creepy design, and the effects animation is brilliant. The smoke is really fun to watch. And, if you throw a bomb in water, you get this really cool effect; there's a sort of a geyser and huge explosion. If the people had just looked nicer, this game would have been practically perfect. If even Link and Zelda/Tetra had looked nice and everyone else had been kept ugly, that would be great. I think the best-looking person in the game is Aryll because (a) she's a new character and you have no clue what she'd look like otherwise, and (b) because LITTLE kids like Aryll ACTUALLY look like that. Link's about ten or eleven--maybe twelve! He can't go wandering around with chopped off feet and a blown-up head! I agree, he SHOULD look cartoony, but if they gave him feet the appeal would be there. It just ISN'T now. The thing I think I liked best that they changed on this game was either the Great Fairies (who were just hideous previously) or the use of either a really great synthesizer or real instruments. Or both. They also had really nice arrangement. Not as good as Ocarina ofTime, but hey, what IS?
Oh, P.S., in case you were thinking I'm some kind of professional, I'm not. I'm just a bored kid on Spring Break. Bored and hungry. It's a good thing It's almost lunchtime.
        • May 31, 2005, 3:29:25 AM UTC
          I want to nitpick too!!

Actually, in LoZ: Ocarina of Time Link has atleast one expression and that's scared (going as a kid to the graveyard and finding few zombies/animate deads in one grave...) it gives certain personality, don't ya think?

If i recall right, Majora's Mask also have few expressions BUT it's ages since i've been playing MM, so i can be wrong...

Oh, well... I'm on a ongoing guest to piss people off...

Ooh wow, thats so beautiful. I enjoy the soft colours you've used. Wonderful, Great work :3

Link calling for gods and Naury (Smack me with a giant hammer if i remembered the name of one god in zelda wrong...), and she responds... Really nice, it gives me a feeling of somesort of unreality. And that in a good way.
    • Jul 27, 2004, 11:24:38 AM UTC
ah thank you. I kinda wanted it to have a surreal feel.

sorry, you could be a guy too. I just got to thinking about the three goddesses of Hyrule and typed "she". No offense intended.
        • Mar 18, 2005, 12:15:32 AM UTC
Well, actually in LoZ: Ocarina of Time you can clearly see in one cut-scene that those three god's are goddnesses (dunno how to say it in another way... Big Smile )...

          So...
      • Mar 18, 2005, 12:18:17 AM UTC
No, wait... U were referring me as she... Well, it should be he... LOL

It's true, we can feel great emotion in your drawing. I love the way that you draw Zelda.
