Slate Full Body

Posted Mar 27, 2006, 2:53:12 PM UTC
This is Slate, one of my "I'm feeling lazy I need to doodle" things. I was trying to figure out how to do head-on pictures of animals, specifically wolves. I can't do it!! I am having some obvious problems, but what? Any ideas? Tips?

As others have said, references are always nice. Smile But to really get the full grasp of something, it's best to see it in person...*clears throat* Good luck finding a wolf!
This is very cute and I look forward to seeing more of your art!

Thank you! If I could get my computer to upload, I would happily put more up. Sadly, everytime I try, the computer locks up. *Dies*

The eyes would be at a slight angle, and there would be a ridge were the snout projects. There should be detail on the nose especially, because in a face-on point of veiw, the nose is the main point. My idea is that if you drew a v shaped guidline from the nose to the eyes, and based the face around that....anyway, I have a pic. of a wolf in my images/photo folder that should help. ^ ~

You spelt "Where" wrong. You put "were". I thought I told you to keep an eye on your spelling. I will eat you one day.
Anyway, I tried face-on in the way you described with a lion, but the bell rang and I couldn't finish it. Whoops.

Aw it's so cute! Innocent To help with the head I suggest finding pictures of wolves off the internet and using those as a reference. I'm not to great at drawing animals (I draw people mostly) otherwise I'd be of more help to you Sweat Drop

Thanks! I looked at a few pictures before, but I guess I have a problem with shading. The muzzle is a cylinder, but I can't draw a 3D cylinder. *Dies* At least not from that point of view. I get confused. ^.~

Keep working with realism pics. I know it sounds boring but the more you work with ref pics the easier it gets to apply that to cartoon style drawings. Yes

Realism...*Twitches* I will try. I have issues with realism. I get all panicky 'cause I don't understand what I am doing. Knock Out
In fact, I don't think I ever truly understand what it is I am doing. I just..Make it up as I go along! O.o, Look, there I go rambling on again...
