Mind if I ask what white space is to you? Is this just to fill in white areas an colour on top of or what?

You're alot cleaner than me- I usually whore my art out to the memory eating part of my computer- got 1Gb of memory and it still runs fast ^^

White space to me... is just a white background to color on top of so the background isn't screwing you up.

Ahhhh- thought as much ^^ I use that too. It fills in the transparent spaces nicely. Just wanted to make sure you didn't know something I didn't- it's happened before ^^

Oh goodness it happens ALL THE TIEM with me.... I really honestly know very LITTLE about Adobe PhotoShop... I't s abox of crayons to me with an undo button. All the nifty tricks someone has to tell me otherwise I'm doing everything with a 1PX brush zoomed in tight. ^^

O.o No WAY. Most of the time, my smallest brust is a 19pixel one... Mind you, I work on a 600 dpi A4 pic which is huge... So what do you play around with besides layers? I may be able to swap some knowledge Smile
            • Oct 10, 2006, 4:01:16 AM UTC
I work anywhere from 300 DPI to 600 DPI

(I usually DRAW in Manga Studio in 600 DPI and then export the inks to Photoshop and paint in 300 DPI.)

But yeah I *USED* to color my lines manually by going in after the fact and painstakingly paint them out pixel by pixel ... What a PAIN IN MY ASS.

One of the thing I have no bloody clue how to use or how they even work believe it or not is MASKS

              What the hell are masks?

I R STUPID and have been learning this program little by little since PhotoShop 5.5 and I still don't know much.

              I have CS now.

I have CS too. My friend use to tinker pixel by pixel... Call me messy, but I like a slightly rough look on my lines. I think it's the pencil artist in me not wanting to give up ^^

Masks, although I don't use them aren't too difficult, but my friend Vic swears by making channels. This is too much work to me for little results.

                http://www.farlowstudios.com/tutorials.html

This guy has a tutorial using 'flats'to colour his art that she swears by. Me? Select and flood fill, but hey- everyone to their own, right? It's worth looking at though. MAsks to me are a bit of a "But I can do <enter process> and do the same thing!!" *shrug*

I'm kind like you there... Why do XYZ if doing PDQ works the same way?

I'm happy to learn shortcuts but sometimes the shortcut seems longer than the way I was doing it before sometimes.

                  I hear ya!

Yup ^^ Make use of what you know, but always be open to new things ^^ Like locking treansparency- that's a good idea Yes

Yup, makes it impossible to color outside the lines! ^_^

how do you do your backgrounds? trail an error? referances? something else?
                        • Oct 11, 2006, 5:59:24 PM UTC
It varies... In this instance I rendered the props in Poser (Cottage, fence, dirt road...
then exported it as a 300 DPI render into a PSD file... then I painted all over it and filtered the bajeebers out of it to make it look like a painting and not a 3D model... Like I painted in the grass, added lines and edges and flowers etc...

It depends on how fancy I want to make a BG... If I'm just gonna have it generic I'll just paint it (I have a ton of custom brushes I've made for that purpose.

but if I want it as rich in detail as this one, I'll render a 3D model first (I have lots of construction kits in POSER that I can build scenery and cottages, even castle building blocks if I wanted too... and then paint over it using it as a wireframe/template.

                          ^_^

Wow... I don't have cool tools like that... All of my backgrounds are done by hand O.o Ohhhh...

                              DAZ|Studio
Is JUST like POSER and is FREE
                              http://www.daz3d.com/program/studio/1_0index.php

However it can be an expesive hobby to buy all the nifty builders...
Let me know if you want anything -- I'm a platinum Club member and I can get most things VERY CHEAP. Most things for me only cost $1.99

                              ^_^
