Uma Thurman WIP

*giggles* I like alot of things about this picutre myself- it's turning out well, which is why I thought I'd post a WIP of it. It was weird drawing her though- Americans have a very different face shape to English, which is what I'm use to drawing. Americans seem to have a larger nose and more oval face. I was a little scared that I'd get it wrong when I drew it ^^; This isn't phot perfect at all though- her expression is totally different, her gloves have the wrong pattern (DOOM To the glooves!!! They took me AGES!!)and her hair- well, I never draw the hair the same. Its actually easier to make it up. I based it off the origianal ^^; Serious! *wanders off in wonder*

wow! You have alot going on in your head. It is really cool how you can really just look and be like well this looks more american than this. I never really noticed that, because I don't really look at different countries with different people and go oh that person looks different from an american, but you will need that because you need to make it believeable...your don't like the gloves!?!?! I think they are very interesting lol!

Its not that I don't like them- they look pretty. I hate the gloves cause they took me too long!! It's like... a love hate relationship really. They love it when I hate them... ^^;

Nationality is really imprtant to me cause it is a huge part of a person- their age, expression, nationality... all obvious things about a person. If you're gonna make a person smile, you may as well go a step further and get the right expression, nationality, and age, cause people DO notice the difference. Give it a go though. Draw from a picture of an american, then do one of an asian. You'll notice a HUGE difference if you put enough effort into the picutres. Its the different life styles we live with the different blood backgrounds.

Well yea american to asian is way different there I see what you are saying...I am just talking about Irish and stuff....like the facial features. But yea now I see what you are talking about..you know that is a great Idea I am gonna have to just doodle around with different nationalitys...

Even the same nationality makes for great practise. Changing the nationality when you have the bone structure is easy once the planes have been identified :nods:

OMG- I may die early of a heart attack if I had a response like this to all of my picutres!! XD Errm, well all I can say is that I had an absolutly beutiful picture to work from, and that is 50% of the hard work done right there! ^^ The picture still needs the hair finished, her left shoulder finished, and a back ground (wouldn't have a clue what I'm gonna do for that...), but the hardest part is done (the gloves ^^; Tooooo many circles!! And I got the damn thing wrong anyways!!)

Yeah, I'm always drawing anime and elves to make a human looking person without long, pointed ears is just not normal!

It's all about what you mostly draw. Back when I got into DBZ, I did so much DBZ fanart, it actually morphed my own style. Once I stopped DBZ style, my old style came back better. If you want to do realism, it has to be something you draw all the time- its a mind set. Going from line art to pencil is nothing.

Really? You too? That happens to me when I try to draw Sailor Moon. All my art turns out in that style for days.

I try to work in realism but it's just not where my talents seem to be. I'm a fantasy artist, and that seems to be what I'm good at. Tho, I'll never stop trying to do realism. ^-^

Its also what you like to see yourself draw- obviously you don't enjoy drawing realism as much as you thought- I'd like to do anime, but my hearts not in it.

You know, you're righ. I never thought about it like that but it's true. I do want to try to learn to draw realism but not as much as I want to perfect my anime.

Damn- I must be getting old if my advice is good ^^; Ieeee....

Neither can I ^^; Realism is something that takes paitence and practice you're just starting out, so don't sweat it. Get plenty of tips from people who know what they are looking at, and learn by them. It's all you can do :nods:

*yes* ^^; Those damn gloves... hours later, and I STILL get the design wrong!! *cries* I still have a few areas to finish off on the pic, but its 85% there. I'm gonna make this one a desktop also- may give it some colour for that somehow... Donno. I'd love to know why when I draw girls I get more attention though ^^; Its frustrating- I draw 95% guys!! ^^;

And you are! x3 It's great work. Realism...not really something I'm good at. But you pull it off very nicely! Yay!

Hon- Aim to beter yourself, and be eventually better than OTHER people, whome are beter than me ^^; Seriously, I'm just above average. I am SO not the mantis artist to wish to draw like. I watch a guy on Deviant art that works on A2 or something and gets maticulous photo realism. He actually has to state that it IS a pencil drawing, and frequents with WIP so people know that it actually is a drawing!! Thanks for the compliment though. It's mice to feel highly regarded with my art

I know it's silly but it makes me frustrated just to look at the art over there. And to think that half of these people are alot younger than me makes me even more frustrated. I'm wondering how the hell they get this good. It seems as though all they do is draw. But you're still way better than me so you totally deserve the praise. Btw, I saw one Shinya pic on deviant that looked almost entirely like a photo. It was just the brush strokes that gave it away. It's awesome what some people can do! But yes, I will aim to get better.

^^; Err... When I'm not talking here, I'm doing art. Art is my life when other things don't 'get in the way' ^^; Seriously though- don't compar yourself to them. Compare your new stuff to your old stuff. If you're not getting beter, or worse, then you need to look into either training yourself, or learning what you're doing wrong. Come to me if you ever want directions Been there. Wish someone told me. I learnt the hard way ^^;

lol that's not what I meant. It's just that right now art is not all I do, I wish I could do just that though, like you. Maybe in the future...:headscratch: Anyway, you're right of course. If I keep comparing myself to others I won't get anywhere. Then you're saying you taught yourself to draw? That's quite impressive. I don't think I'd be any good without art classes to begin with.

I took art at school, but it wasn't the type I draw. I only learn a fwew techniques and minor other stuff. Alot of it was me practicing ALOT and using alot of referances. I have a libuary of referance/ how to draw books

As for Vege- I can't do Akira's style anymore, and to do a pencil of him... what kind of face does he have to start with? Asian? European? Alien? Its hard to make a real realism of a manga. There's nothing to base the shapes off.

You know with manga, that's the thing, they're not human base so i think you just have to look and study and find your way of drawing them. But manga is clearly not your style so i think you have the right thing in not drawing them. But you know, you just gave me an idea...

Yeah- it's annouying mostly. There's calot of things you use a thumb for- pulling luggage out o fbackseat of car for one thing ^^; Typing also tingles it too so I'm gonna have to lax back on that too.

There's always the option of training my left hand... that is a bit of a long term option though...

Critique is something I haven't gotten much of ^^; It's nice to get warm fuzzys, but I do want critique too- if people want to give it ^^;

Huge problem- entered it into a colouring competition and someone STOLE all the artwork !!!! It's GONE!! *cries* Now I'll never finish it ^^; Dmn- I spent hours on this
