Southern Crowned Drake

Artists

Artist's Comments

One day, I was feeling moon-ridden, but I didn't have anything in particular I wanted to draw. So I just decided to play Dragon Building, which is the game I played way back when I very first began doing art seriously. I'd decide to draw a dragon, but nothing specific about it, and just let it put itself together from whatever bits and pieces took form in my mind. I wouldn't preset its colours, its features, anything. From beginning to end, I just let it randomly assemble itself.

This is what I got this time. To me it has a very strong South American/jungle-beast kind of feel, so its original title was Southern Dragon. Eventually I decided that it was called a crowned drake, though, and changed the title to include that because really there's probably lots of southern dragons. This is to be distinguished from a monarch dragon, which is also sometimes called a crowned dragon. Not the same beast though. This is a big mess of mechanical pencil, cheap-o Bic-o ink outlining, watercolour pencil, a bit of Prismacolour, a few touches with a gold foiling pen, and a teeny bit of Photoshop touchery.

Wow, that's quite a rare breed of coloring I see for a dragon ^_^ But I deffinately love it. It sure brings it into focus more with all the vibrancy going on there. I like too that you chose to do blue for most of his main body, it brings the rainbow colored wings out alot more. I'm also liking the Black/red flame-like Marking it has on its upper arm and throat. This a heck of alot better job than I can do when I draw a dragon (IF I could draw one lol)But it's quite beautiful indeed, and deffinately being put into my favorites. I really don't see anything wrong with it. ^_^. Great work.
