This was done for VASE, a state-wide art competition in Texas. This was the first thing I ever entered in it, and it went to State! *uber-proud* I worked frantically on this for a month and a half, and still brought it up to the school for matting at midnight the night before we went. xD I'm surprised it went so far, seeing how OFF her proportions and angles are. Maybe I got credit for trying? xD Not likely.

The concept behind this drawing is based on the idea of reaching past our comfort zones. Sure, we might be comfortable where we are, and it may be beautiful enough to content us, but looking beyond what we're used to will let us see in to worlds of danger, mystery... and wonder.

Crayola pencil, 9x12.

The sky is very moving and full of life. I think it's my favorite part. The branch leading up is well done, also, and my eye is really drawn to the white portions, which are well-played in the rest of the piece, especially with her outfit.

I'm not that fond of her height in comparison to the trees -- she looks like a giant in a snow-globe. ^^; Some background hazing (muting the colors a bit?) might work to eliminate that weird, disproportionate feeling.

Thank you. ^^ I was mostly finished with this piece, and still figuring out what color to make her outfit when my friend, in a pure stroke of brilliance said, "Why don't you just keep it white?" xD And the sky is actually supposed to be the ocean, from below. As for the scale, it's supposed to be looking mostly up at her, which would make the foreground look much higher than it actually is. I messed it up, but that was the original intent xD

This is very beautiful; the colors, detail, and the pose--they are all well-done [emoticon]

This is beautiful I love the detail you put into this [emoticon] as for a roast well the perspective on the girl is a bit off. Try using a photo reference for hard angles. But other than that this is really very pretty especially the blues and greens. Nice job ^_^

Yeah, I noticed that. xD I had to use a friend of mine as a model (which involved a lot of sitting on a clay-dusted floor xD), and most of the other stuff was guesswork. Would you believe how few references they have of upward views of biodomes? xD Thank you for the kind comment.

You're welcome ^_^ Yeah finding the right reference for something can be tough especially very specific things but it still turned out very nice [emoticon]
