Roth for Dennis

Artists

Artist's Comments

He's finally finished, and I can move on to other things. I must admit - I think this really IS my best piece of fantasy art to date. Thanks for being such a great muse, Lloyd, I love you man!

(For any who didn't know, this piece is my half of an art trade with Dennis. The sword design credit goes to his friend, Alvin Balajadia. Enjoy!)

I did do it, didn't I? Wow, gosh, I think I need to rest for a little bit... Or I could start on the next drawing, and make the attempt at getting through my to-do list.

[emoticon] You'll have to wait anyway, because the next one will likely be in the same kind of detail. Now that I know I'm so slow with this, I have to practise until I'm fast at it, methinks. We'll see how long my patience lasts.

Oh.. my..really Mini, this quite deffinately is my MOST favorite piece of yours that you have done. The amount of detail and effort put into this is stunning. Anyone with a half a mind would know that this is DEFFINATELY a masterfully done piece of art. The sword design is exquisite, the shading/shadows on the rocks are absolutely PERFECT, you have just the right amount of tone to them to give em' the "rockety" look. And the pose that Roth is in, is very well done too, you can tell just how frustrated he looks, almost as though I can feel what he is feeling at that moment. I like/love this piece you've done very much. Super- Awesome-Marvelous job Robin. Quite simply [emoticon] material all the way [emoticon]

Robin this is really amazing. All of that hard work has really paid off. This is excellent work. Perhaps the best we've seen from you yet. There is so much emotion in Roth and I love the level of detail you've put into it. I hope you have some way of protecting it so that all of your hard work can be preserved.
This is truley stunning.

I think I might frame this one. I just have to get to the store and all that jazz. We're going downtown tomorrow, so I'll probably bring it to the frame shop with me on our way out to lunch (Jon and I are celebrating 2.5 years). Before then.. I'll just have to cross my fingers and hope it doesn't get ripped.

STUNNING, Robin! The textures -rocks, fabric and leather- and the body proportions are very well rendered. The shading is just awesome!

I'm speechless almost Robin, there is just som much feeling in this. I want to run in and kiss it better for him, poor man. He looks to be near the end of his tether and morning a lost friend.

I think Dennis is a very lucky man.

I DID!! I was SO excited! I nearly fell over when I got the package. I'm going to go get it framed today along wiht this piece. I only got it.. yesterday, or the day before? I think it was Monday, late at night, I finally noticed I had mail.

I was just on my way to write you an e-mail, in fact, to tell you, but you sent me this handy little comment instead (and thanks for it, by the way)

Lloyd won't be getting the original for this, though, I don't think. This one's an art trade, not swap.. Though I SHOULD see if he would like to do an art swap sometime. [emoticon]

In case anyone was wondering, I know this man and his story. I explained it to my dear sister, the artist.

[22:11] Erk: [emoticon] he is a sad pirate
[22:12] Erk: the saddest
[22:12] Broin: He's not a pirate...
[22:12] Erk: Sure he is, but they stole his hat and outfit and gave him a sword.
[22:12] Erk: And that's only PART of why he is sad.
[22:12] Erk: Poor pirate.
[22:12] Broin: Oh... I see.
[22:13] Erk: They buried his boat in the tar pits and told him it was in the mountains, and he hiked all the way up here and it wasn't here, just the sword.
[22:13] Broin: stupid sword.
[22:13] Erk: and the sword is stuck to the rocks, and is very hevy, so he can't even use it to cut his hair.
[22:13] Erk: He is a sad, sad pirate
[22:13] Erk: He tried to cut his hair with it but he slipped because the angle was so bad. that is how he cut his knee
[22:14] Erk: All he has left is his bag of marbles, and there is nobody to play marbles WITH.

Holy Smeg Robbo, that's amazing... not only the fella himself but the scenery is quality! Those rocks look awesome (sorry, I've already run out of decent adjectives and having to resort to crap surfer terminology, curse my fleeting grasp of the english tongue) I love the way the mountains in the background fade away... Hows arts thous by the byes?

Yo yo Andy! Does this mean you're home again now? [emoticon]

I saw awesome all the time... Then again, I also call my best friend 'dude' even though she's a woman. Perhaps I'm not as articulate as I would like to think.

Anyhow! As to the picture/drawing. I was very proud of this when I finished it, and still am, for the significance I hink it holds. This was my first piece in which I felt I had actually grasped enough patience to do all those tiny little details and hold out until the very end without screaming in agony. Don't know how you people do it sometimes, buddy.

I arts pretty good. I hate my job, but it could be worse - I could be stuck in it. As it is, the store I work at shuts down in January and I'll be free once again to rack up student loans and dig myself into debt with the government. Sounds good to me! [emoticon] It's good to see you around again. I hope you're staying for a little bit this time?

Wow.

Because I'm critical mean, and otherwise evil, I have to come up with something to say.

I love it. It's marvelous--something I could craft a story out of quite easily if I knew the character. I think the only thing that I would have liked to see is a little more muscle detail on the exposed arm. Maybe just a stroke or two more.

But don't look at me; I'm a writer, not a drawer, and I don't know the first thing about it.

Marvelous.

Somehow your comment seems neither mean, critical, or evil in any way. [emoticon]

Thank you for the honest response to my drawing. Being the artist, I know there is far more than just some minor absence of muscle detail. At the time, I had no references to go by, and so went for the 'less is more' approach. It didn't come out quite so well as it erhaps would have otherwise. [emoticon] You have a good eye.

Thanks again for taking the time to comment. It is very much appreciated.
