Alex in Pencil

Not evil, but definetly self confident/ determined/arrogant. He's the hero in my story- it doesn't mean he is nesesarily on everyone's side. He's completly against the High King in my story- and well, his family rant higher than the king

Its great though- everything about Ryan Phillippes face fits Alex... except his head shape- HE'S TOO AMERICAN!! *cries* Alex has a more english look

XD YES! He is my sexy little devil errrr... hero of my story *looks around innocently* Photo referances are the best, eeeeven though I didn't REALLY follow it on this one- it was more to remind me how the eyes looked on that angle, and to a point, the mouth. Pretty much everything isn't the same... Oh- I just spotted a mistake in this piccy... ERRRR!!! I hate doing that! I'm gonna have to change it now ^^;

Thanks ^^ There's not alot of people out there that appreciate contrast- it's odd, but I love it ^^ Lighting is something I'm still teaching myself, but when it's done right, there is so much class in a grey scale pic with it I've grown to love my 9B pencil

i think the contrast brings a pic to life. holy shit, you´re working with 9b!
for myself i apprecciate the 4H /2H stuff, in my personal "worst case" XD I´m using 2B.

I had bad experiances with the harder leads- they didn't give contrast, and I couldn't blend them. I think I'll need to learn though cause I can't get 9B to be smooth. At best, it's VERY rough. It suits this pic though, so it's fine. I have others that didn't turn out so well. this ended up havign too much texture, so I retraced it as a line art. One day I'll digetaly colour it- till then... ^^; Heheh... So, curious- how much art schooling do you have? You're really acurate Most of my stuff is slightly off at best ^^; LOL!

yes, harder leads don´t often give contrast, but I´ve myself probs not to wipe all, i´m so messy with that. i use for contrasts mostly technical pens.
I love much texture in a picture.

btw, 20 bucks for a comm? low price for so much effort.

Heh. You say $20 is low, but no one will pay it ^^; LOL! Yeah, I do put effort in, but people aren't willing to pay money. It's ok though- I only do art for fun- even my comic is for fun. I don't expect it to make huge money or anything ^^

I don't tend to have tooooo much problems with the softer pencils... Sure- my whites turn grey, but I remind myself where the whites are constantly by keeping them white. My hands become a grey mess, but that's me XD I'm a messy artist. I like the texture on the paper too- it has a... not realness sabout it- 3D effect. I donno. It's just more interesting than perfectly smooth- although I should have more smooth to accent the rough ^^

12 years huh? So you sell your pencil drawings? Or is that for fun? That would be such a cool job ^^ I haven't taken art as a serious subject except for the optional courses at school where it was either art or cooking XD I sooo hate cooking I didn't learnt alot at college (high school)- they concentrated on abstract, maori and other forms of art that weren't me. I did one serious year of design which I skipped most of... still got a B- somehow XD Never got it til the very end ^^ Heheh... Oh well...

yes, it´s a pain in the a*** with commissions. either you draw for friends, or students without money or relatives. ^^

i just got another offer today from a company to do cover artworks for adult male/male stories. mmh. it´s more fun than work.

yes for grey messy hands, luckily i have a cat that was ginger once - now poor kitty is grey, too.
i erase the white parts and clean them up - i have to, otherwise i´d scan a grey sheet of paper.

YOUR CAT!!!! NOOOOOO!!! *oogles kitty duster* Poor thing- I have a ginger kitty kat too- he's a long haired cat and if he encountered an unsealed pic he'd muff it to death!! XD Speaking of sealant- you should add that to the tutorial. I've learnt the HARD way to seal ASAP. Otherwise grey is not the word. My old charcoal pics not only destroyed themselves, but the page opposite them in the sketch book, and the pencil ones weren't too much beter ( Go HBs for not smudging as much!!)

i dunno - the art director told me that they will buy the artwork, that means no publishing outside for me. but i have alot other stuff, i just have to figure out so much things here. ^^

Drat. Oh well- I tried ^^ Yeah, I love the male body too. I appreciate all bodys- male and female. People think its weird for a female to appreciate a female's body, or to appreciate a male body (It's not that I'm horney or anything), but it's just beutiful. Everytrhing has beauty. I'm just able to draw humans and not other stuff as well ^^

yes, i apprecciate the human body and i love to draw it. i´m more into men but of course i draw female bodies too. yes, even if i draw gay stuff, i don´t get horny at all, i just love to draw it.

Sorry- you're new. The double named ones are collabs. These ones in particular would probably be the competition entries- I did the line art, they coloured. I shows up in both mine and their gallery

I totally know what you mean with drawing- I do draw women, just most of my characters are men and well... I prefure drawing them too ^^

Yeah- I really like this picture. I use it for the background of my buisness card. It ended up looking really good- I've had to sign a few buisness cards ^^; (Damn tight wads getting cards signed cause they're free T.T DOOM!!)

Not really. When they start off with "Do you have anything for free?" And I'm stupid enough to say that the buisness cards are, that's more or less stupidity at my own cost

One person got me to sign the card cause they liked my art- I didn't mind that so much as the 10 year old boys running around trying to get free stuff Goodness knows WHY. What do they do with it?

You just have to learn to start being mean! When they ask if you have anything for free, you should just say..."Um...do *you* do work for free? No? Well, neither do I."

Hmmm...maybe the reason I don't sell anything is because I'm too mean. :\

Naugh- the cards are there to give out. The cost nothing to make. It's not the point though. You don't just take stuff for free and not want it specifically. Those kids would throw away my card. The others would go to my web site and mayb buy somethign later. Even if they just wanted it cause it had a cute guy on it. Yeah sure. Cause its free? That hurts. I don't offer my cards as *free* now. I point to them if people want info and hey;'re there to take, btu not if someone asks for free stuff now. That's fair

I suppose that's true. I just hate people always trying to grub free stuff off of artists as if what we do isn't really worthy of being paid for like if we had 'real' jobs. That's probably one of my biggest pet peeves.

Drawer huh? Like, you have slide out boxes that hold staff XD You know one thing I hate? Just cause I draw alot- people ASSUME I can draw everythign equally well? Like NO! Do you see mecha and wolves and scenery in my gallery? As it happens, I took a year of art design so I can do logos if I think about it, but stuff that's not in my gallery? I can't just draw it- realy. Unless its a REALL commission? Someone wanted me to draw a unicorn once. My unicorns look like dragons, my dragons look like dogs, and heaven forbid I should draw a dog XD May become a rift in the space time continuim XD

I hate that too. The last time I asked my mom what she wanted for her birthday, she asked me to paint a landscape.

I was like "Mom, dear. Precisely how many landscapes have I ever painted? Would you believe there's a *reason* that I don't paint them?" So I painted her an angel instead. *L*

A friend recently suggested that I start doing a web comic. Because...my style is so comic oriented. I literally know nothing about how to do a real comic and I can't do comic styled people and I can't really do people in action very well...so why did he just assume I could. Or would even want to?

You could do a comic if you wanted- there's heaps of painter type artists that do some awesome work with that kind of technique, but the problems with comic is 1- storyline that suits your style, cause at that point, you wouldn't WANT an action story with your style, 2- time consumation for what satisfation of you? I enjoy doing comics, but if you don't like them, then it doesn't matter how good the story line is, you'll hate your results cause you didn't want to do it in the first place.

But yeah- anythign non human for me... HECK. Drawing Females XD I'll give anything a go, but don't expect it to be awesome you know guys? Heheh...
