This is a little better in darker values, but the shadows are still muddy. The shadows around the face blend right into the hair, with little contrast, the inner part of his open mouth should be darker, and there is not a definitive light source. Perhaps try mixing it up with a dark background too. I do like the way you did his eyes, he is interesting. Keep up the good work.
