Proportions seem correct and he has a powerful if not stiff appearance. The lack of really dark values keep this piece from popping off the screen, the background does not appeal to me at all. The color is fine, but the criss-cross of white makes me a little dizzy and does not invite the eye into the picture. The black framing is nice and the lighter shadowed image adds drama.
