This is really very beautiful. Love the story that goes along with it. [emoticon]

Gorgeous pencil work here, Ark. You've done the shading very well. i admit - doing drawings like this where most of the background consists of a wall one has to shade tend to make me get sloppy with boredom after a while, but you haven't given in to that tendency, and the piece works wonders because of it.

No way- your backgrounds are just as pretty as the foregrounds ^^ I just did some rough shading and some creepy looking branchy looking things ^^; A bit of atmosphere. I strongly believe that pictures should have SOME sort of background. I didn't get hardly enough money for the picture though >.> $50 NZD :< Oh well. I did a commission ^^

My backgrounds started as nil when I began with internet galleries. They developed from there into clouds and wisps, and then to what I have now. But you see, now I can't go backwards. If I do a picture with no background, it feels unfinished to me, and if I do one with a simple background, I get bored while shading. So you see, I kinda screwed myself over in a way.

I just don't spend long on backgrounds, so I don't get time to get bored XD Finger smudging does wonders, with a bit of texture on top. Something with detail in it frames the picture better though. The smudging only works if the alternative is nothing al all.

I used to do a whole lot of finger smudging. I don't anymore. I find myself more satisfied with my style when it isn't smudged up, and i can erase easier. Of course, this means it takes me WAY longer to get an area of drawing filled... So I need points of texture to hold my brain and stop it from wandering too far.

But it doesn't matter. The point is that you made this one look good, and it does what it was meant to - draws the viewer's eyes in to look at the central figures.
