Amazing. I don't see where you come off saying where you need to improve. I can only wish to be that skilled. Not sure which program you are using, but don't forget the Smug, and blur tools, they work great with shadows. And filters are always a great shortcut.

This looks like its headed for my favorites list.

Photoshop CS2 with a wacom tablet, but this took AGES and its still very blurred and unrefined. I guess part of it is my frustration cause I hate digital. It's not horrible or anything- just... laboured T.T

Oh yeah, It takes a whole lot of time. The beauty thou is working in layers you can try different thing. I have noticed that a lot of professional illustrators will paint in oil or acrylic and then take it to digital. I bet that saves on the time.

Multimedia makes things nice and fast for me too, but paints are so messy that I sometimes can't be bothered cause of the clean up. I'm not that talented with wet media anyways. I reckon that this will get less annoying as I get better at it, but I don't think I'll ever like it as much as doing the pencil work. I need to develop as an artist though [emoticon]

This is coming along really well [emoticon] Don't know why you keep saying you're not doing good with it cause it looks like you're doing fine to me [emoticon] You should paint digitally more often [emoticon]

I'm not saying that I don't like it. It turned out well considering really. I don't like digital colouring though. It's very stressful for me. Maybe I'll like a bit more when I get use to it T.T

not bad so far, I really like his lips and eyes and yes his whole expression, but I have to agree with you traditional media is better [emoticon]

It's better for me anyways, but I like things I can physically feel. There's just something impersonal about a tablet that I can't describe to someone that doesn't use both regularly. I love pencil passionately. It does look crap scanned though [emoticon] And reproduced. Otherwise I'd do everything traditionally ^^

yeah I often have that problem to, my scanner always eat half the shading. In my opinion that is the best thing about digital art, the quality stays more or less the same.

Well, this is how I see it-

Traditional media is done with physical media. since its physical media, it should be viewed physically (obviously this can't always be the case)

Digital media is done digitally so should be viewed digitally.

As for prints, I actually don't like prints. They're a good way of capturing talent, but they have not artistic emotion. That's why I passionately seek out original arts- why they cost more. Why I become personally offended if someone barters my prices down. Originals have passion, time and effort. Prints CAN'T capture that. That's how I see it all. I'm a little too romantic, I know, but traditional never translates directly to digital, and the same the other way around. People can make it similar in prints, but it'll never be as glorious as the digital version [emoticon] It's how life is....

I do very much like the color scheme you've used for this; the purples and blues highlight the intensity of emotion you're portraying. I think you're doing a magnificent job with it!

Thank you ^^ I'm trying out using non natural colours as well as natural ones. Not sure about them yet, but there's dynamic potential ^^

But Ark, it DOES look really good! You're doing an excellent and thorough job of shading this accurately. The colouring you've chosen works very well, especially considering the tears in his eyes (those are tears, there, right? I can't enlarge the picture, so I'm assuming so.)

Anyhow, it's looking great. I know what you mean how computer colouring takes so much more time - I'm the same way. But keep at it!

Yes- those are tears ^^ He's crying out of frustration, but he's a King, so he doesn't want others to see [emoticon] Its great practise for me, but my tablet is majorly playing up which is why the head took so long, and the shading is rough. It's got a sine wave through it when I use the pencil end- the eraser end seemed ok. It makes it really difficult to find inspiration to work on it >.>

Oh, that's weird that your tablet's acting up. Perhaps you should look up finding some new drivers for it? That could fix any jumpiness you might be having.

Tried that- its difficult to find drivers for my tablet which work now >.> Calibration is also something I'll need- haven't found that feature yet...
