I can see how those arms would be difficult; that's quite a hard angle. But, if you think of the limbs as a series of circles and rectangles (shoulder joint is a circle, upper arm is a rectangle, elbow is a circle, forearm is a rectangle), it may be easier to get them right in the future.

I think his arm came out nicely. I adore the feathers, they really make the piece spring to life! ^_^
