Magic Eight Ball, IE woes

Nov 21, 2007 6:42 pm by BogusRed

Hello PDers [emoticon]

The PD Social Gathering of Über Coolness seemed to have gone well. I had a lot of fun chatting with different members from PaperDemon and made some new friends [emoticon] . One particular conversation comes to mind...

Dracontiar, DragonAceSg7, and I were chatting with ladybattousai in the PD Chat room and we were asking ladybattousai's Magic Eight ball some questions. Everyone was enjoying its reactions and a strange idea hit me. What if we had a Magic Eight ball in the chat room that worked similar to the /me and /roll command? I knew it would be very easy to add that functionality so as I was chatting with everyone I began programming the Magic Eight Ball feature. I had it up and running like within an hour or something. It was pretty cool. Now every time I'm in the chat room I see someone playing with it. I'll even find someone in there alone having a conversation with the magic eight ball. It gets really addicting.

To take advantage of this neat feature, just enter /m8b followed by a space and a yes/no question and it will give you an answer. Be careful though. We've found that it has a bit of an attitude.

Problems viewing profile pages in Internet Explorer
A few members were chatting in the chat box about a problem viewing user profiles in Internet Explorer. I investigated it today and discovered that IE has a limit of something around 30 style sheets that can be imported via <LINK>. The simple fix I found was to remove a bunch of these <LINK> tags and then edit one of the CSS docs to import the style sheets via @import. I'm glad that it was a simple fix.

Please remember that if you ever find similar problems or weirdness on the site to report them to me asap and I'll have the problems fixed right away [emoticon]
