Mm... granted, that personal failings don't always mean a leader won't do something good in an official capacity when it comes down to brass tacks. But when personal failings include what people have done "officially," what they've done to their businesses and money at the professional level in the past, I think there is some cross-contamination to consider - and there's also the matter of the international stage, and whether someone's being highly undiplomatic could increase the number of unwanted ruffled feathers. And as you mentioned, Trump's speeches can be - bothersome - and if I can't be certain how much of the worst of what comes out of his mouth he would actually follow through with, I would strongly prefer not to risk it.
Johnson is still Not Trump/Pence, so that at least is a plus to my mind.
