Hello PaperDemon fans. I hope you're having a lovely Thursday.
Today I have some exciting news. Next week PaperDemon will be upgraded to a new version that I've been working on for the past two years. The most important thing you need to know is that PaperDemon will be in read only mode and possibly completely down for several days next week while the software is upgraded to the latest version. If you need to access any private messages, or other data, please do so now. Your data will be safe. It just wont be accessible next week.

About a year ago I announced this new version was in the works. The site's code base was suffering from a bit of code rot. Adding new features was becoming increasingly difficult. Any small refactoring that I attempted would break 10 other sections of the site. In addition, I use PaperDemon's code on a few other sites that I manage and customizing was becoming a maintenance nightmare. It was clear to me that I needed to completely restructure and refactor the code and allow for more flexibility in customization and make it easier to maintain.
I'm happy to say that this new version is ready tfor prime time. But in order to do this, I'm going to need to put PaperDemon into Read Only Mode. This means you wont be able to log into your account (unless you are using remember me) , and you wont be able to access many areas of the members area such as creating new and managing your submissions, accessing your private messages, posting comments, etc. It will be in Read Only Mode starting early next week for several days while I migrate the data.
A few highlights you can expect from the new version:
Faster
We'll be utilizing caching better to give you a much faster browsing experience.
Threaded and multi recipient PMs
The private messaging system has been completely rewritten to now allow threading. You can also send PMs to multiple users at once and see all of your sent messages.
Improved Email notifications
Previously you could be notified of new comments or private messages, but this resulted in a vague "You have X new messages" email which wasn't very helpful. The new email notices contain the actual comments and messages that you've received. You'll also be able to receive emails when your favorite artists, authors, and comic authors post new work. You can "follow" your favorite members just as you did before. But now you can enable email notifications if you want it.
Improved mobile experience
More and more internet users are accessing the web via mobile. The new version of the site is designed to be flexible and work in many different screen sizes and also be easier to tap on links, even if you have fat fingers.
Improved User Interface
Much of the user interface for managing your submissions and subscription notifications has been updated or completely redesigned to be simpler and easier to use.
Pixlr integration
An easier to use alternative to ShiPainter will be available for forum oekaki. At some point, we will integrate this with comments so you can do "red pen crits" right on the site.
Overall, this new version will allow me to better maintain the site and add new features quicker and provide you with a better experience at PaperDemon. Special thanks goes to our beta tester team for helping me find and fix bugs in this new version.

There's SO MANY improvements in the new version TuT I'm really happy that it's finally being aired to the world!
