Okay, maybe you guys can give me some perspective. I really want to get a tattoo, but I'm kind of scared to, not because of the pain, but because it's permanent. I'm afraid that in 10 years I'll look at it and be like, "that was dumb." But I want to get a tattoo to symbolize overcoming my recent health crisis. I've got the tattoo I want picked out, it's a Japanese style lotus flower in the middle of a wave where the wave is almost crashing over it. It's a really beautiful design but kind of hard to explain. I want this tat because to me, it symbolizes so many things. What do you guys think? Has anyone ever regretted getting a tattoo and where is a good place to get one. I work in a job where tattoos are frowned on and in fact not allowed to be visible, so it would have to be hidden. Additionally, I don't really want to show it off, it's my tattoo and I kind of want to be the only one to see it. I'm thinking about on my hip or somewhere like that. Any perspective or advice would be most welcome! Thanks!
Neko: Great tat, I absolutely love it and it looks breat btw!

Yeah, but removal leaves scars, right? I don't scar well, at all sadly. I'm also worried that I'll kick myself later if I don't get one. I would never get my boyfriend's name or anything tattooed on me, that be a total jinx not to mention maybe a little cheesey? I'm just torn. I do want to get one because this past year has been pretty bad for me health wise and I want to mark it, but I don't want to regret it later. I suppose there's no way to predict that. We'll see. Anyway, let me know what you all think.

Emmet, it sounds like this tattoo really means somthing to you. Personally, I think you should get it. From the short description you gave, it sounds beautiful, and a tattoo that has meaning is better than the most beautiful tat. If I ever get a tattoo, it would probably be on my ankle. For you that would work, seeing as your job prohibits that they are seen. The hip is a good idea too, like you said, and theres always the lower back that works, or upper shoulder. You also said you were worried about looking back years from now and tsking yourself. Well, you said that the design you want shows how you overcame a health problem. If it were me, Id like to remember something like that. To show that you beat the health prob.
Overall tho, its your decision. Dont be too hasty, but still keep an open mind to it ^-^ Hope I helped a bit.

Thanks Bloodysmurf! I'm still thinking about it. I really love the design and it does mean a lot of different things to me. The wave is almost crushing the lotus flower which is like this health thing almost making me go on permanent disability and also that I will likely face this health problem many different times in my life, it will come and go. The lotus flower, however, is still intact symbolizing that I'm still here, still strong, and still working at getting better. That's just the tip of the ice berg as far as what I see in the tat.
My problem with placement is that I want to be able to see it which leaves the back out, it has to be hidden so there goes the arms and shoulders. The shoulder would probably be my first choice, but I just can't put it there because of work. Additionally, it's my tattoo and I'm selfish and I don't want everyone to be able to see it. It's a personal artistic expression that the whole world doesn't need to know about. Because the tattoo would represent so many personal things to me, it's not something that I would be comfortable exposing to everyone. I don't want people to ask me, "why did you get that tattoo?" because I don't want to explain it to them. Sorry if that sounds snobby, mean, or stupid, it's just what I feel. I love tattoos and I wouldn't be ashamed of having one, that's not why I would hide it. This tattoo would kind of be a diary entry in the form of a picture, it's personal and I want it to stay that way, thus the hip. However, arkillian made a good point. I have no idea if I will ever have kids (or if I'm capable, but that's a whole other health thing that is a contributing factor in all my health issues, basically they think I might have endometriosis as well as fluctuating hormones which are leading to migraines that are very difficult to treat, etc), but if I do, the tattoo would stretch if I got it where I was thinking of. Hmmm, much to ponder.
I can also see myself regretting not getting that tattoo. I could see myself looking at it the future and thinking, "That was a rough time and I'm glad I chronicled it in this tattoo, plus I was young and I'm glad I did it then." It's kind of like my piercings, I have taken out a lot of them, but I don't regret a single one of them.
Thank you so much for the advice. I'm so in love with this tattoo that I'm guessing that I'll get it, but it still definately deserves more thought.

Why if a dragon? Its your body choose yourself but if I'm gonna take a tattoo it would be only to honor someone like my mother. I woul make a tattoo of her name and her birthyear and die year. Thast atattoo you wouldn't regret taking. Those doesn't have to be beautiful but only publik.
