I had this absolutley AWESOME idea in the shower that I want to try out so bear with me here...

Since I was 10.5 years old (I'm 24 now) I have been in Scouting and been put through alot of life skills. I've gotten the highest award in Scouting, and am now the boss of my own Cub pack (8-10 year old Scouts). I've learnt alot about being out in the bush and living off instinct.

Most of you I'm sure haven't experianced survival situations- and that's fine. Alot of people don't in their lives. I thouhgt- wouldn't it be cool to see what KNOWLEDGE people have of survival situations to see if they could adapt to a senario as it comes?

That's where this forum comes into play- if this works, I'm going to do a forum once a week on a senario or situation or something, and I want you ALL to attempt to figure out how to survive it- PRIVATE MESSEGING me your answer.

That sounds complex- right? Survival is hard, right?

WRONG- Surviving is dead easy when you know how. It's all about thinking ahead and being prepared- the Motto of Scouting- "Be Prepared".

Before you answer this- one big hint. Think of the worst case senario for this situation, and figure out how you'll over come it.

Remember- DON'T CHEAT. I don't care what your answer is- I'll tell everyone what I'd do after a week and you can compare results. There will be KUDOS for people that can give me extra information that is correct!!  [emoticon]

Situation:-

You are a 20 something year old, fit person going on a weekend Hike (tramp, walk) through the Waitakere Ranges in New Zealand with 6 of your friends. The hike isn't too hard- some hills, some streams, but its very well marked out tracks (go Department of Conservation!!) - likelyhood is you wont get lost. You bring a map and compass anyways just to be sure.

You have told your parents, friends and the Rangers that you will be tramping on certain tracks to get to a hut, go down to the sand dunes for some fun, then head back home on the Sunday. The responsible thing.

This will be 2 days and 1 night worth of walking, sleeping etc... You can easily make it to destinations in time, and the most dangerous thing out in New Zealand forests are those damn possums that the Australians love so much. They're harmless if you leave them alone, and cover your food.

What I want you to do, is PRIVATE MESSEGE me what you will bring on this hike. Remember- plan for anything to happen, but also remember that you will have time to do what ever you want when you get to the hut. It is given that you have a map and compass. Tell me what you're bringing, and anything extra like if you can tell me extra important info like quantities and what things are made out of, I will give kudos. If you bring interesting stuff that would totally ROCK a hike, you'll also get kudos [emoticon]

Remember- no cheating. Think about it for 5 minutes. Open up  PM to me in a new window/tab and list what you'll bring. You have an UNLIMITED BUDGET. Spend up on the best if you know what it is. Trust me  I've either got it or used it. It doesn't matter if you've never hiked before.

I'm dying to see what the results are [emoticon]

(Oh- leave a comment to say you participated to keep the forum at the top [emoticon] )

Ohhhhh- a few entries here, but DO remember a few things here- you're staying in hut for the night, and you need to also think about what MAY happen during the hike that you may not immediatly think about. Think about what could go wrong, and how you'd fix it if it did.

I've given you the first worst case senario- you get lost. You have a map and compass- if you know how to use it, you can use that to re'find' yourself. New Zealand may not be small, but I have been seriously geographically embraressed before, hiking in the dark cause we underestimated the hike.

What else could happen?
