The other thing I don't agree with is the filler swear words. That's what I call them. Listening to people tell a story and they forget a certain word or pause and just add f**kin'. WHAT?! WHY!?! It makes no sence!!!

"I was at the store the other day and....f**kin' ... this guy..." SPIT IT OUT! You are a moron.

[emoticon] [emoticon] omg! My brother does that alllll the time.

"I have to finish this project...f**kin'...by thursday!"

" I gotta... f**kin'...hang out with my friends." lol ohhh that's hilarious cause it's so true. People use f**kin' to fill pauses unnecessarily .

Its demoralises, and lessens the impact of a word, doesn't it? Swear words use to have such an impact. Now they use it in everyday speech [emoticon]

 Gay, and Retarded.

I don't think he knows anymore! I ask him every time he says Gay to change the word to something like dumb, and he says " dumb sounds so gay, I'm not saying that."

AAAAHHHHHH READ A DICTIONARY! Don't you know that you might be hurting someones feelings?!

There.

Oh I hate that.... Next time tell him to replace it with another derogatory term that society finds unacceptable in these times...

Like, "Nigger', "Whop" "Dego" or "Jew" or any other nasty word meant to be derogatory to an entire group of people.

That would be more powerful an example than "dumb" he might just "get it"

Sadly, you see this all the time. "Oh that's so Gay."

What that's so happy and carefree?
Or that's so homosexual?

I find this term used primarily by young teenage boys who have zero sensitivity and homophobic tendencies or who are just completely dense and wouldn't realize they were insulting a whole group of people if that group showed up to kick Johnnie's little ass.

That is a huge peeve of mine I share with you, especially since I myself and bisexual and have enough trouble with people being nasty without that stupid phrase still being accepted by in large by society.

Back in 1950 is was okay to walk up to a black person and call them a Nigger. How disgusting huh?

Same principle applies here. But people can't think that far yet I suppose. Stop insulting groups of people because they are different than you.

Oh what a wonderful world that would be!

I don't believe it was hon- there was that whole slave stigmata thing ,and I think that there's stil ALOT of tension about that.

Look at the word Awefull. It use to be a good word- to be awed at. Now it's something horrible. Horrific.

I think the one thing I dislike the most is when people say something like, "Well that idea is gay!" just because they don't like it. Gay has two meanings. 1. happy, and 2. a homosexual. It doesn't mean dumb or lame! That get's on my nerves [emoticon]

FYI, Wikipedia quotes
"The word started to acquire sexual connotations in the late 17th century, being used with meaning "addicted to pleasures and dissipations". This was by extension from the primary meaning of "carefree": implying "uninhibited by moral constraints". By the late nineteenth century the term "gay life" was a well-established euphemism for prostitution and other forms of extramarital sexual behaviour that were perceived as immoral."

It's also used to describe something 'Flambouyant' I don't think people really mean it when they say it though [emoticon]

Ack, a peeve of mine. These two following words, are just that, words. But there is a common misunderstanding between the two...of the two...

Ugh! It bugs me to no avail when a person refers to a prostate as a prostrate. It's quite a common misconception however, and my peeve isn't going to change the world. [emoticon]

Haha! After I read this I IMMEDIATLY thought of redneck Nappa on ZMT when Piccolo the proctologist was the guest [emoticon]

One phrase that bothers me is when people say "You know what I mean?" after almost EVERY sentence that comes out of their mouth.  I feel like screaming, "That's pretty damn annoying, you know what I mean?"

Another item that annoys me is when people say the word  "like" before and after almost all of their words!

"Like, I went to the mall and like I saw these people there that I like knew and like, they were like 'hi!' and I was like "hi!' and then like, we like, hung out together and stuff..."

This is an exaggerated example for most people that abuse the word 'like'. However, for some people this is no exaggeration.

It's another word for 'um' to some people. Like makes more sence than using a word like f#$% or something else to fill in blank spots. It is a comparing word rather than something vulgar and rude.

You know what I mean is a very insecure way of asking if someone understood what they just said. If someone says it, it may be annouying, but alot of the time they can't read or don't know if they'll take something right on what they're saying, and litterally want a reply without realising they said it. (wow- long sentance O.o )

Alot of this pet peeve stuff I can see is partial lazyness of the talker, and some poor education on other accounts, but for alot of this you need to step back for a moment and look at the person and why they said what they said. They may be emotionally insecure with their position, topic, and want to cover it. The rest are plain lazy.

Yeah sure does people use it so often now that it's practically everyday and no one thinks twice about it. I'd say maybe just ten years ago that word had a major impact if it was said. Whew imagine  the early 1900's I bet swear words were almost forbidden O.o

As for the "like" thing... [emoticon] I'm way guilty of doing that. My friend counted the times I said "like" in a conversation once before and it was around 50 or 60. lol it's ok cause I count the times she says "like" too to get her back.

Sorry if my language is bad(I'm a dutch marocan) anyway: You have troubles with poeple who don't speak the words correctly or people who rape santences. Then you never ever ever ever ever come to holland. It's the same problem only a lot bigger. HEre in Holland we have too much languages: dutch, frisch, ABN, dialects, ishta. Dialects aren't really languages but more like accents spoken by a city or province. frisch is a language only spoken in frischland(province). Dutch is the language spoken in all holland(except frischland). the dutch langauge has dialects spoken bij villages or citys.(I allready said it before sorry)ishta is a mede up language by the kinds. And then theire is ABN(Algemeen Beschaafd Nederlands) it means (general social Dutch) its the social languages od holland, you can compare it with english. if someone says its like "tooken" in stead of taken. The same mistake. Back to the topic: Just like how poeple said everything wrong: theire will come languages. Like a language where its tooken instead of taken. And all. That's how all the languages started in the netherlands.

I think the point is more that English speaking people in English speaking societys are using these words. It's a little differnt if it's broken english in a non english society.

Ive found I have a profound dislike for people who use this "street" language, ebonics I think? They act all innocent when I take a mallet to their heads, but they know their guilty....

All I tried to say is if it contineuos it will become a language instead of a mistake.
