I have a user reporting to me that there are problems selecting galleries for artwork and comics. When she selects the galleries and hits submit it tells her she didn't make any selections or not all selections.

Anyone else experiencing this problem? If so please contact me ASAP! I haven't been able to reproduce this problem.

If you have, please tell me exactly what galleries you tried to select, the name of the artwork or comic you were editing, and what your browser and browser version is.

Just reply to this forum post or use the Contact Webmaster link.

Well, for me, it takes AGES to come up with the gallery options thing- like the WIP/ finished/ sketchbook reasonably quick, but the other two take ages. I thought it may be my internet connection, but its like that on afew computers, and it never gets beter.

Arkillian,
That's so strange. I wonder why it's slow. All of that content should already be loaded in the page. All it's doing is hiding and unhiding content that's already on the page so whether its slow or not shouldn't be determined by your internet connection.

May I ask what browser you're using and what version it is?

EDIT: Actually it could me that some of the content is still loading on the page... rrr. I wish I could see exactly what happens on other people's ends. I think perhaps I need to make a second version of the page for those with older browsers or slower connections. What type of connection do you have Ark?

I'll have to wait till I get home for full info, but I use Firefox, and I believe it's the latest one cause I try to keep everything up to date. I use ADSL, but Xtra has been unbelivably crap rescently- its been like that since you changed it though.

Oi this isn't good. Part of the reason I made it the way it is is so the user wouldn't have to suffer through large loading times. Perhaps the problem lies in the thumbnails. I could remove the gallery thumbnails and that should make it load a hell of a lot faster.

Ok I took the thumbnails out of the page where you select galleries for artwork submissions. Ark, can you do me a favor and try editing the gallery selections for one of your artwork entries and seeing if its still slow? Please try it both in Firefox and in Internet Explorer and let me know what happens.

It's faster now, but the real crunch is posting a new picture. I'll submit a picture at home and see how fast it is there [emoticon] Ta!! [emoticon]

Ok cool. Please let me know how it goes.

It's probably a good idea I removed the gallery thumbnails anyway. There might be closer to 100 of them and I bet dial up users really hate me for that. Sometimes I forget that not everyone has DSL.

Well that's great. I'm glad to hear it's loading faster! (By the way, why didn't you mention this before?)

Anyone else experiencing problems with selecting galleries?

I didn't mention it cause I was having internet/ computer issues- and still are having issues (may have to reinstall windows....) so I thought it was my end.

It might be spyware. Download Windows Defender and Spybot: search and destroy to clean up spyware.

If that's not it perhaps you have bad RAM. Have a technician run a "Mem test" on it.

There are a number of things that can cause a system to be slow. Exdeath is the expert on this. you may want to PM him and tell him your computer's symptoms.

Done an AVG and Spybot check- I didn't even have minor spyware let alone bad stuff- learnt my leason ages ago with some of the other viruses out there. Naugh, my brother is a computer technician for NZ's largest internet companys if he can't fix it without reinstalling windows then it *can't* be fixed. I have full faith in him. He's been an expert since... he was 8 or something? He WROTE a spreedsheet program when he was in scouts (10-14) and it was USEFULL. We don't know where he gets it from cause none of my family are into computers, but he explains alot of it to me when he works on my computer. I don't know everything, but I can keep up with my l33t friends ^^ Alot of girls can't do that. I break minds when I talk about CMYK, RGB.... I guess it's the need for my family to fix things... My Dad is an expert at welders, my brother computers, and me? Uhhhhh.... XD

Oh ok. I didn't know you already had someone working on it. I forgot your brother was a computer techie. Sometimes it does have to come to a reload or new load [emoticon]

Anyway, back to the topic. Has anyone experienced problems with the gallery system?

I don't think I have problems selecting galleries (I never really noticed.  My computer's always slow as hell.  Damn Dial-up and stupid 8,000 year old Windows...) but when I'm going from the "Add Artwork" to "Selecting Galleries" page, it's slower than usual...which is really something.  I figured it was just the addition of the file that was really bringing things down, but now that this forum's up, I thought I should ask if this is normal?

Hmm.. it could be that the page is slow. that page is drawing a lot of data from the database. i will attempt to start caching the data into xml feeds. i just learned how to make php parse xml documents today. i may not be able to get to this for a while though.
