Twice now, i have went to edit some of my writings and when I click the "submit" button, I get logged off!  I then lose everything I had done also, and I want to know if there is a way to prevent this from happening, so i don't waste another 30 minutes of my life.

Hey, it's simple.  When you go to log in, simply check the "Remember Me" button next to the spot where you enter your password.  Ta-Da!!!  I used to have the same prob when I would go to post long Forum topics...  BogusRed told me 'bout it originally.

You get logged off if you are inactive for 15 minutes. This is just how it is. I could look to see if its possible to extend that though.

But yeah 'remember me' is the way to go.

if you are doing any sort of heaving editing, it's a good idea to copy paste it into a word file or something or at least copy it into your clipboard before hitting submit. there are other issues that could happen other than auto-logout. For example, if our server goes down momentarily and you hit the submit button, you could lose everything. So it's a good idea on any website, if you are typing a long post to copy it to your clipboard before submitting.
