Does anybody think that Rumiko Takahashi hates men?
Her main male title characters like "Ranma 1/2" and "Inuyasha" get abused in her mangas. Ranma with getting malleted by Akane and Inuyasha with getting "SIT" by Kagome.

Feminist may be more accurate- a domanent female diciplining the rogue male. That, and it's slapstick. A dog wearing a collar... but the dog is a powerfull half demon- its funny right?
Not man hating- otherwise it'd be all men like that rather than one. I just think its a female power thing.

Can't say if she hates on all of her male characters or not since I'm only familiar with Inuyasha but I DO think she hates Sesshoumaru. I've never seen a character brought so low before.

It is really sad the way she's cut ol' Sesshy off at the nuts like that. I liked him better when he'd just bitchslap people out of the way or kill them for looking at him wrong. I don't think she hates her male characters, but she's got a bad case of hero-worship for her leads. They are undefeatable, and when it looks like they're about to get defeated, along comes girl-lead to save the day w/the power of twu luv. Formulaic as hell, but we are talking about a manga here. She's made a lot of money recycling those storylines.
Poor Sesshomaru. We miss your balls so much.

Thanks everyone for your responses. Do you think that Rumiko Takahashi had male problems in her past in real life?
LOL. No more any of the rest of us. I think it would be a mistake to assume so anyway. At the most I think she uses comic violence as fanservice, just like all the boobs in Ranma and the early IY manga were fanservice. People like spunky heroines, although I have to admit I miss Kagome's spine from the early manga. She does a good job portraying the rapidly changing emotions of teenage girls, although sometimes it does come off as a little heavy-handed when Akane clobbers Ranma for things that really aren't his fault or Inuyasha gets the face-plant for an innocent, but stupid, remark.

I agree- it's a writing style. With some people, their personal veiws do come in, but this doesn't feel like hating- it really is more empowerment- could be wrong, but it's not hatefull- Kagome always like Inuyasya

Yeah, I have to agree with the others. Takahashi's a formula-writer. She finds something that works, and uses it...over and over and over again. With different settings, and details.
My other personal opinion is that maybe she's put herself into the female characters she's made, and just likes seeing her win.
No hatred, just a competitive spirit.

Look at it this way: if the roles were reversed, would it be misogyny?
This is something I've run into a lot in the fantasy art world... the willingness to excuse or rationalize violence against men.

Hmmm... Hotspur, I don't think they are excusing -or- rationalizing the violence against men. It is a discussion about the author's potential views, and wondering why she is so violent towards the male characters. That's different from excusing or rationalizing. No one is saying it is right.

Could it be sometype of "dom.in.the.closet" stuff?
1. a guy that can be a girl and still be sexy, and the girl he likes still thinks he is sexy when he is a girl...
2. a girl that dies and walks around wandering after the love that never was...
3. a girl that has so much power over her half dog friend that she can slam him face first into the ground and still love him minutes later.
4. a almost naked alien girl falls into somebodies life. (early takahashi work dont remeber the name)
5. love and hatred/ignorance between ice king sesshou and windy kagora...
But hey i still love Takahashi's work, I just wonder when she thinks on planning to end Inuyasha so Viz can plan new chapters for the anime. Cause that scene sitting in a tree after the fight in the Oni's gut was so...."and what now?"
And last but not least, all of us Inuyasha fans want to see if Kagome and Inu get it on...for real XD
