I uploaded a few of WIP stories that I've been working on. I saw that a few people clicked on my stories but I had no reviews. It can mean two things I guess: My stories aren't good or people don't feel like reviewing.
What if there was a rating system where the readers could just rate (in one click) the story on a scale of 1 to 5 or 1 to 10? It could give the writers an idea whether their stories are good or bad when people dont want to write a review.
Just a suggestion.
Thanks.

I don't think a rating system for anything would be a good idea. You know the story is good by how many favs and comments you get. I think it's best we leave it at that.

If I didn't leave a review... you probably wouldn't like my rating either. Sounds harsh, but it's true.

LOL, but I would want the truth. A bad review or a bad rating is at least an idea about the story.
By the way, were you talking about my stories or figuratively?

I agree with Sivler. If they didn't take the time out to review ,then why would they vote. It is wasn't good enough to make them want to review ,then why rate at all? Plus no one may have even read the stry (yet) to start with.

Reasons for me not commenting on the story are-
Those are my reasons, but I haven't had time to read stories. Currently, I read/comment on storys if asked. I'm *really* busy. But yeah- if that's any insight.

Actually I agree with Lili. Alot of the time when I read a story and I almost never comment. That doesn't mean I didn't like it most of the time I do like the story. I just get lazy and opt out of not commenting to tell the truth.
A ratng system would be really smart. If the reader didn't like it I'd wanna know even if they didn't comment or anything. It gives the writer an idea that they should up their writing or keep doing what they're doing. Over at sheezy there's a rating system and I usually rate the pic before even commenting or faving. Sometimes that's all I do. Rate it and go. It's a bad thing to admit but that's the truth. People just don't want to comment most of the time. They'll look and fave or do nothing and go. I back up the rating system

If you like it so much then fav and go. Rating wouldn't help anything...that BEARLY even helps an ego. On that note, I think rating would do something to/with egos. It's enough to see someone with favs and comments...and ratings too. Come on. Let's keep it at an equal enough level.
If you rate stories ,they run that into the art. I REALLY don't wanna see that on my art. If you want ratings Sheezy does that. I don't wanna see this site become Sheezy. *hides in fear*

I agree with Neko- ratings are biase and can change depending on the subject- not the QUALITY. I will always leave a comment if I have something to say, but people are sometimes lazy- it's life.

There have been suggestions for rating systems like this in the past many times. Every time it's been suggested the majority of those who voice their opinions tend to be against a rating system. Mostly because people are afraid that PD will become like DA and a couple other communities and just be nothing but a popularity contest. This is why favorites are private on entries.
However, I would not be against a rating system if the ratings were only visible to the author/artist who posted the submission. What do you guys think of something like that?

I was just about to mention something like that. Like have the ratings private where only the artist or author can see what the ratings are or have an option where they can turn off ratings on a certain submission in case they don't want to see them at all. I'd be all for that

I am all for the author/artist-viewed-only rating system. At first I wasn't sure why people are mostly all against a rating system which seems like a great idea- but now I can imagine seeing all the popularity artist with popular fanworks getting top ratings despite quality.

I think that people who usually review wouldn't stop reviewing because there is also a rating system. But for those who are not into writing review could just , by a click, say if they liked it or not.
Also, I get the feeling that people are forgetting what reviewing mean. Silverbane and Nekoyoujo, Off course I would want the rating/review even if it's bad. Reviewing doesn't mean only saying nice things. It's also having the honesty to say what you really think. What can be improve and what not to do.
No review can mean so many thing, when the review or rating is bad then at least you know.
Yes BR, I think your idea is good!

B.R. - It's still not a good iodea. The fact that there IS a rating system would still make it biase.
Lilimay - It's not about negative or positive reviews. If you got a review that should be enough. Ratings arent needed. It sounds like another reason to attention whore, like on dA/ Sheezy.

I'll repeat myself. Many people just don't write reviews. The story might be good but they wont review, because let's be honest; not all people like to review.
Explain the difference between a review and a rating?
How would a simple rating of 1 to 5 for the people who don't like to review, give another reason for attention whore as you put it?
I feel like you disregard the many people who don't care about reviewing. Im not saying that all the non-reviewers will start rating, but some who just don't feel like reviewing will at least give the author an idea about their story.
No review...can mean too many thing. A rating, gives an idea. I want to give the people who dont like to review a chance of voicing their opinion, not because I want to bask in the glory of a waterfall of nice words. I cant understand your arguments about ego and attention whores...I feel like it's irrelevent to the debate. No offence.

I don't like rating systems at all. I have been on other sites where they use them, and trust me on this, it prmotes more laziness as people are more likely to click on a button than to leave any really useful commentary, so in the end, you get less comments on all your work. So people give you a 5 out of a possible 10 on the rating system, does this really help you improve at all? Does it tell you where you fall short of hitting the mark, or where you really were skillful with your writing abilities. It is basically meaningless, especially if you take into account that some fanbases will give high marks to anything that has their favorite couple together in fanfics.
