I had this idea for a feature. I was discussing it with Arkillian but she brought up a point that it might be easily abused so I wanted to know what others thought of it. Perhaps you could help us out with it.

Ok, so people have been asking for a way to link together artwork and writing. I thought of something better that would be just like the YouTube responses feature. On Youtube, you can see a video and then create your own video as a response to that video. Then when someone sees the original video, underneath it is a list showing all of the video responses. Well what if we had something like that where you could post an artwork or writing response to someone elses submission?

The problem is someone may post something as a response to someone's artwork that tends to get a lot of views just so they can get extra exposure. of course the mods review every artwork entry posted so we could always catch that and if the artwork has no visible response, we could unlink the two.

But anyway, what do you guys think?

That's a great idea.

I can see that it can be abused so there would have to be monitoring on that, so no responses that have nothing to do with the original can get through. Might be a bit more work for the mods though.

A thought I had, is on the SUPER positive side of it, It may promote more art and writing cause then you get inspired by someone's pic, and draw a pic and tag it! I know I'd do that to a heap of people ^^ I am really concerned though that it'll be used to advertise pics through popular pics though [emoticon] I think the benifits out weight the negatives though!! I'm keen for the idea [emoticon] Anything that could promote more community is an awesome idea by me ^^ [emoticon]

Side not though BR- where are you gonna PUT these mass thumbs? XD

That is true though, the benefits are really great. I get inspired by lots of things on here as well.

For example- I'm probably gonna have to crank out a dark Minds fanart cause of you (When my comic and comissions are done) XD Darn it :shakes fist of inspiration but lack of time to execute:

I'm not so concerned about the response-thru-popular-work thing, because unlike DA where the pageviews and favs are very obvious and certain artists are just obviously the million-pageviewers, with PD these stats tend to be more hidden. To back my idea: for some reason, I never quite get the feeling of "major nodes" (artists everyone go to) in PD. Other than Ark, BR, Sliverbane and the other H.A.M.s (Highly Active Members), I don't think any specific artist is dominating the site through popularity.

Yeah, that's one thing I dislike about DA, that the favourites and pageviews are so obvious and how a lot of people do everything to get more.

I think this idea has some merit and could possibly draw the community together, but there is some concern about abuse.  Perhaps the artist can disable certain responses if they fall out of the general category that was started, or maybe they could request it to be removed.  It may be worth a try, or you could try it out with some clubs, groups, or in the forums first to see how it would go.

Cool guys thanks for your feedback. I like pazazz's idea of letting the original artist disable the responses section on their entry. I think you can do that on youtube too but I'm not sure. I know you can disable the section showing web pages linking to your entry.

Lol- I wouldn't consider myself popular artisicly, but if someone sees a picture to be popular or its an artist like Zyephen may get bugged. I don't think it'll be common, but it could tick people off. IT was something I brought up cause I know this would TOTALLY fail on DA. I have a friend Keysha-chan who turns off comments on most of her pics cause she's sick of "KAWAII!!" comments- she's the type that'd get people linking pics too.

Maybe if we had an option to turn the linking off would fix this? Give the person the option to "not care" and force people to link relevant art

It's a very interesting idea to have a art/writing response.  There are times I see something in someones gallery and I'd like to share my work as a result of theres. It would help the mods if  the artist/author should be able to block or delete something if it is not pertnant to the discussion or innapropriate.

Yeah, if the mods or the artist him/herself could delete responses that don't really fit or are just there to get attention then it could work and would be really nice.

I don't think the artist should have the ability to remove entries that don't fit. However, they could report it to a moderator and the moderator can decide whether or not it fits and remove if necessary. there's potential for abuse on both ends. but i think giving the artist the ability to disable that section from viewing would be a good idea.

i'll see about setting up this feature for artwork initially, then adding comics and writing later. It shouldn't be too difficult to implement.
