If you don't have Poser/similar thing and a tablet, you can use photographs. Find magazines, images online, even images in drawing books and trace them on a separate sheet of paper or make a photocopy and trace on that. The concept is the same either way, but the important part is doing the wire drawing, since it provides the most basic understanding of where things go.
never ever recommend POSTING things you traced, but yes it is good practice.
HOWEVER< the box model is only on her version of poser and it is not on the standard poser package and none of these are free downloads. Start with DAZStudio it is free and a good way to start before investing too much money. You can still pull up and render a wireframe but it is just a wireframe without the boxes at the joints that is in the poer figure artist software.

Haha, of course I won't post it, I've seen what happens to 'artists' who do that. XD
Aah.. Well, I still haven't had the time to figure out how the heck DAZStudio works, so.. yeah. We'll see what happens.. XDD

Hi there!
I'd suggest you read figure drawing for all it's worth & drawing the head and hands by Andrew Loomis .. You can download them here
It sure worked for me though I'm still learning..
Hope I could be of help..

I wish I could remember some titles, but there are books and CDs out there full of posing models that are expressly to be used as art references. You'd have to read the terms of use on an individual publication to find out whether you could publish anything you made when using them as references, but they do exist and are good for practice.
I like to look for stock artists on Deviant who allow their pieces to be used as reference for art to be published elsewhere. Sometimes it's the only way I can get over a hump.
For what it's worth, I never got anything good out of those art study books that have all the skinless muscle and bone structures shown. The best way for me to learn about anatomy is to look at it, and the most detailed way to look at it is when I'm drawing from a reference or model. If I want to know why a particular part of the body looks the way it does, and if I want to know more about, say, extreme poses involving that body part, then it might be useful to look at muscle and joint structure. Otherwise, I just learn by observing.

Indefatigaböle; Thank you for those words! T_T I felt like some idiot who couldn't figure out how to learn from all of those books and stuff! Haha.
Yes, I like to go reference hunting on dA, too, I think it helps a lot. :]
