Um, what size should I get for a Tablet, any really poor tablets I should know of? I have been looking at a tablet on best buy I may get, but wanna know if yall think it's ok or not, or if I need a bigger sized one lol. This is the link for what I am looking at maybe getting, any oppinions/thoughts?

yeah I've got the Wacom Graphire 4x5 and it works well for me. Although my art buddies at school say the Wacom "Graphire" model sucks and you should get the Wacom "Intuos" 6x8...
http://www.creationengine.com/html/p.lasso?p=13053

If you still want to go with the "Graphire" model, don't buy at Best Buy. It's cheaper at Creation Engine:
http://www.creationengine.com/html/p.lasso?p=12083

Graphire is the cheap one that only has like 500 levels of pressure sensitivity. The Intuos has better pressure sensitivity and if you really think you'll be doing a lot of digital painting, it would be worth it to invest in the Intuos. I'll probably be upgrading before long. Maybe I'll ask for one for my birthday. [emoticon]

Save up for a wacom.

Do not fork out good money for an Aiptek Hyperpen
they SUCK! seriously.

My pen snapped in half in about 2 weeks (Weak point where it screws together I hear this is the #1 complaint)

has horrible pressure sensitivity and is just plain cheaply made.

the Aiptek HyperPen was my first tablet back in like 2000.

I asked for the 4x6 graphire wacom for Christmas because I researched and that was the cheapest model they made but was the quality I wanted.

My now EX husband.... Didn't want to pay the additional $25.00 for the wacom model and just "asked the dude at comp usa for, ya know a tablet thingy."

He didn't *CARE* or give a shit about why I wanted that particular one and was a huge cheapsake when it came to ANYTHING I wanted or needed

(Among being a cheater and other things which is why we are DIVORCED after 8 years of marriage. I went without cutting my hair at like "CUTS-R-US $5.00 chops" even for 8 years. I cut my own hair, he was that cheap. I got $20 a week allowance that paid for food and gas for a full week. I never saw my own paycheck. I never ate lunch in 8 years. Yeah... he was that much of a penny pincher, excpet when HE wanted something... Oh I'm ranting... moving on!)

The disappointment aside at NOT getting what I really wanted (I'd have rather not got one at all.)

It was really crappy, and like I said BROKE within weeks and I don't draw with a heavy hand either. Quite the opposite. Not value for the money, not at all.

So after I got Divorced... the First tax return that was ALL MINE, I blew it on myself and got a Wacom Intuos II (3 wasn't out then) 12x12... UNNNNNN sooooo much nicer.

It is my holy grail, I wanted it soooo badly, I treat it better than I do myself man.

^_^

what's that saying that comes to mind "penny wise, pound foolish" or something? what a doofus. by being such a penny pincher, he's losing money, not saving it. and he's being a butthole. i'm glad you left him D. good ridance! [emoticon]

You know what I hope I'm rich enough to own someday? I heard about a thing sort of like the Wacom Cintiq but it is it's own computer. It's a laptop with a touchscreen that's as touch sensitive as a Wacom. I heard a friend of one of our instructors in LA has one. I think it's a test product or soemthing. But he's got Photoshop on there and he's got all of his custom brushes and such and does figure drawing right on that computer. He just carries it around like a sketchbook. Isn't that awesome? It's probably like five thousand USD though. I don't know if it's available to the public. I wish I had more info on it so that I could find out where to get it and how much it costs.

OH YES... I've heard about it... *DROOL*

And would sever a limb to own one.

$2999 usd
list price
for the 21.3" diagonal

$1799 usd
list price
for the 17" diagonal

That's a few YEARS away yet heavy saving.

But Unnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

And no... it's *NOT* a stand alone computer, it's still just a tablet, you need a computer to power it like your current tablet, Sadly it cannot be carried around like a sketchpad unless you also carry around your laptop:

System requirements
PC- PC running Windows XP or 2000. DVI or VGA video connector, available USB port, and CD-ROM drive.

Mac- Macintosh OS X, v10.2.6 or greater. DVI or VGA video connector, available USB port, and CD-ROM drive.

Here are all the technical specs on it

yeah I know about the Cintiq. But what my teacher's friend has is NOT the cintiq but a stand alone computer. At least that's what my teacher described it as. I'll see if I can get more info on it when the semester starts.

yes I would LOVE to have that thing. Imagine never worrying about having to get out your paints and stuff when wanting to paint on location somewhere. Just pull out your sketch computer and start! Don't have to worry about cleaning brushes in the restrooms of the local McDonalds ro anything. DOn't have to worry about the mess or running out of paint. Man that would be so awesome.
