This is an idea that I've had for a while and other members have suggested something similar. Basically what I'm thinking is creating a feature where you can create your own personal folders or galleries or whatever you want to call them, and you can place your artwork in there. This would be great if you have a series of drawings that go together such as a series. And perhaps the coolest thing about it would be that you can order the artwork in whatever order you want. This is most useful for comics.

I'm thinking that when you create a gallery, you provide a name and description for it and when someone views your profile there will be links to all of your personal galleries. And I'm thinking that the personal galleries wont have the same look as the regular art surfing areas. I'll have to work those details out later.

But anyway, do you guys like this idea? Do you have suggestions for making it better?

Y!G has that feature. You can "folder" like items in your gallery. My gallery for example:
http://yaoi.y-gallery.net/gallery/fablespinner/

I only have completed finished projects in the top level
and WIPS and FICS go into separate sub galleries.

Works well and a nice feature.

... where your wet little dreams come true? *glomps FS* That's quite a cool set up anyways- I dig having thumb pics which are different to the full sized pics, cause then you can focus on an interesting area of the pic insteed of having an ubber small ful sized pic thats unreckonisable. Fable's gallery here is a good example of using thumbs. BR- is it a problem having seperate thums if we want, or does this take up too much space on your server?

LOL, yes and there's custom theme layouts.
I made the layout, but really that's asking susie for a LOT of hassle and drag on her server for theme custom upload selection I'd surmise.

For thumbnails though, I can take or leave it really, but again I think if Susie put like a 5K or 150x150 cap on thumbs she'd save server space and I'm talking like I even know how difficult website coding is...
her layout might not even accomodate them.

We'll let the lady in charge offer up her two cents and I will shut my mouth because I speak strangely at 4:30 in the morning when I should have been in bed HOURS AGO...

I'll probably read this in the morning and Go

WTF was I on man?

Oooh, I like this idea, I have actually been thinking of something quite like this too, after visiting a site called animegalleries.net, where it lets you create an account to store pictures on there, and are able to have a folder for each type if you want.

I REALLY think this would help, like say, I wanted to order my pictures into one big ANIME folder, then have a sub category in there, for the diffrent anime that I have drawn for.

Or if you're thinking of just one gallery per folder instead of a gallery in a gallery, that works as well ^_^

I could also piece my W.I.P's that I have been doing, and order them 1,2,3 as how it progressed, like Fablespinner mentioned..if you do implement this feature, will you have a thumbnail view of the pictures in that particular folder, or will you have to view each folder's picture individually..I guess I'm asking for a preview of all the pictures in there all at once heh ^_^;;;.

Well anyways, to surmise, yes I like the idea, and I say go for it, it will most certainly make it easier to find a picture I have when I sometimes look on here and have to go through page to page of my works looking for it lol.

The folders in my Y!Gallery... those are ICONS not thumbnails of that is inside the folder. I made the folder icons with text to indicate what's inside is all. You have to go into the folder to see thumbnails.

Custom themes.... the server space isn't the problem there... it's the PROGRAMMING. Gah that would be a pain in the butt to figure out. however, if it was something more like you could choose from premade themes such as you choose a layout and then choose a color scheme that might be more workable. but still that would take a long time to program. that would take up my whole winter vacation right there.

The other thing about allowing customizing your page is that a lot of people don't have good design sense and they make really ugly layouts like on myspace.com *shudder*. So I'm more inclined to allow something like choosing from premade themes. and we can add new themes all the time or whatever.

Ok so you are asking for custom thumbnails when uploading artwork  right? I think I can deliver that. it shouldn't be too hard to program in there. You'll have to remember though that there are two sets of thumbnails on the site. Big ones are 150 x 150 and the small ones are 75 x 75. So I guess what we'd do is you'd upload an image no larger than 150 x150 and then I'd have the program resize your custom thumbnail for the 75 x75. Or should the 75 x75 still be created from the large artwork? Or should i let you upload 2 custom thumbnails?

As for those folders. I like the idea of allowing members to upload an image thumb for their folder. that is cool. I also like the folder icon. So I think we'll go with that idea too.

I REALLY think this would help, like say, I wanted to order my pictures into one big ANIME folder, then have a sub category in there, for the diffrent anime that I have drawn for.

Sub folders... hmmm I can do unlimited subfolders if you guys would like. That would be cool.

Now another question arises. Should artwork only be located in one folder or should it be allowed to be located in more than one? the answer to that would determine how i'd go about setting up the databases and programming it. i'm thinking more than one just in case someone asks for that later down the line. it doesn't hurt to allow that right?

Well anyways, to surmise, yes I like the idea, and I say go for it, it will most certainly make it easier to find a picture I have when I sometimes look on here and have to go through page to page of my works looking for it lol.

Yes this is probably the main reason i want this feature. a lot of us have tons of artwork and it's hard to find something when we need to make a change.

Any other ideas you guys can think of to make this feature kick butt?
