Well first you need to create a light source. what I do is I draw alittle light bulb where ever I want light to come from and use that to show where light would hit an object. I also have problems with folds so try picking up a towel or shirt or something and throw it on the ground and see where and how it folds and wrinkles or look through photo's of people sitting and study where clothes should wrinkle. For 3-D and detail stuff I guess it's just all a matter of refrences. say you need a grass detail go outside and look at how grass looks from far away and from up close take picturs if you need to. A 3-D look is usually based on shading in my opinion. I hope this helped. [emoticon]

Fablespinner would be best to talk to about 3D shading, but for doing it manually, I find using layers in Photoshop easy to do lighting. Have all of your light sources on a different layer, and once you've done that, then put in the shade [emoticon] On top of Jill's comment, I wish to point out luminousity of the light. A bright light ( eg- torch light)will give a brighter highlight, and darker shade- often canceling out other light sources, and diffused light (eg- sun light) will give little shadow, and an even glow. That, and colour. Suin gives off a yellow colour, Fluroescents a blue colour, and lightbulbs a green. Gotta watch that

Oh, and the funky ambient light. http://www.paperdemon.com/rc_artview.php/id/3457.html This pic has alot of ambient light from the water- basically, anything that is shiny will give off a diffused glow when a bright light shines on it.

Does that make any sence? ^^;
