Well I asked Susie to take this one to the Suggestion Box but I'm jumping the gun on her because I like it. She had a thought in another topic about making a coloring book of line art to put into the store and I got to thinking that if more people would make something to add to it we (more like you all [emoticon] because I'm still in the grasshopper phase, but I would most definately buy a few) could just let her keep the total profit of whatever sells as a great big THANK YOU to her for putting in the time and hard work to make our happy family a great place to meet. Which is also why I jumped the gun on her because I don't think she would suggest that part. Well what do ya'll think?????????

I think its a fabulous idea and I wish I could contribute.  Stupid nonexistent art skill. (continues grumbling adding in a few expicatives for good measure).  I know I'd certainly buy them along with the other idea of the book about how-to's.

That's an excellent idea!! I would so contribute some line art but sadly I wouldn't be able to buy any of the books cause I don't have a pay pal account. [emoticon]

you don'thaveto have paypal to buy from the store. you DO have to have paypal if you want to receive a cut of the profits if you submit artwork to place in the store for sale.

thanks Moon Demon for starting this topic. Sorry, gotta get back to working on final projects for finals. they are all due on monday and tuesday

I don't know how much of my art is appropriate, but most of my art still has a line art (expecially if its digetal) I don't have alot of time to do origanals, but if its line arts you want, then give me a buzz of which ones you want, and I can e-mail a high res version of the lineart to whoever needs it [emoticon]

we are just in the talking stage still. the question is should we do a childrens coloring book? that's what i was thinking. like doing cute little chibi drawings of kids playing in a sand box or playing doctor or playing cowboy or whatever. just like other coloring books. most of our art in our galleries would be good i guess for an older kids coloring book but i don't think older kids do coloring books unless they are those fuzzy posters things.

i think we should do a new set of drawings just for the coloring book, at least i will anyway for my book. they should be cute. it could be fantasy. i just got a couple of Dover fantasy books. i could make chibi dragons and wizards and stuff. that might be popular.

I was thinking (this kinda follows MoonDemon's idea) that maybe we all could draw a pic or two for the book and then make it into like a whole PD family  book created from all of us and then individuals could make there own coloring book separately like what you said BR. Or would that just be to much of a hassel??

Well I already stated I think it would be nice for us all to do a drawing and put them in one book but I forgot that yes I was thinking for kids too. I don't know about other kids but my 3yr old loves anime and fantasy stuff so if I could get a coloring book like that 4 him I have a slight hope in keeping his crayons off my drawings LOL

Yeah that's a good point guys. we don't have to choose between a collab and non-collab. we can just do both! lol. yeah lets do a fantasy themed book. i'll get started on mine as soon as i'm finished with school.

by the way, i just got word from my teacher that i might have to take an Incomplete grade, which means i'll be spending part of my winter break finishing the work i didn't finish during the semester [emoticon]

It's been a long time since I knew anything about how grades work, does incomplete mean that you'll still be able to turn that stuff in and get a finished grade???

thanks MoonDemon. but lets get back on topic...

Another idea for getting clean lines on these drawings would be to trace them in illustrator. I think that's how they do coloring books these days.

Illustrator is pretty difficult to use. I don't know it that well. Usually when I need to get vector art done, I just use Flash but Flash isn't as sophisticated with vectors as Illustrator is.

Ooh, I [emoticon] LOVE [emoticon] coloring books!! [emoticon] I made one last year for the book Life of Pi (by Yann Martel—if any of you haven't read it, you should). The actual novel's got its dark parts (it's about this kid who gets shipwrecked at sea and has to make friends with a tiger... [emoticon] Don't ask. Just read it.). My coloring/activity book was made as a school project, so it covers all the main ideas, but if anyone wanted I could just take out the un-kiddish parts and submit a G-rated version.

Or I could submit it how it is.

Btb, if we do make coloring books (which I think is an absolutely terrific-ly WICKED idea), are they going to be like the Disney ones where they actually tell the story? Like, each page has a couple sentences summing up a main point? That's what my coloring book is like.

Can I make a Harry Potter coloring book? Or is it illegal to sell trademarked characters? Where should we submit coloring books? They'd be kind of long to just submit one at a time as our own artwork... Should there be some kind of sub-section to the artwork where we can submit several pieces at a time, comprising one coloring book, maybe? Or should we just email everything directly to BogusRed? Just thoughts.

So, Ghandi used to walk around barefoot, and his feet got really tough. He fasted a lot and got extremely skinny and weak, and his odd diet gave him a bad breath. This makes him a super-calloused, fragile mystic, hexed with halitosis.

That depends on how un-kiddesh the stuff is I guess

Sure that's fine. You can do it anyway you want. However, if it contains text from another source, in this case Life of Pi, I'm afraid you can't put the text from that book in there as it is copyrighted material. Also you cant put character's names or any references to that book.

Can I make a Harry Potter coloring book? Or is it illegal to sell trademarked characters?

No, you can't make a Harry Potter book. It's copyright infringement.

Where should we submit coloring books?
