Comment here if you want a comic section!!

Just seeing if there is any interest in having a section for comics- Its apparently going to be a bit of work for Bogusred to set up, but she may set one up if there is interest from enough people.

Currently, you could post it as a seperate image per page, or put it in the premium accounts gallery.

My suggestion is a layout similar to the story writing section, BR suggested that an immediate fix could be to add a seperate forum for linking the pages of the comics together in.

1- Comic gallery writen out specifically for comics (story gallery format?) please!! I have so many pages I want to post!!

2- Special forum for advertising links to comics and their pages is all I need. I'm happy surfing there for comics

3- Don't care! Don't read online comics!

4- Neutral- I'll read Paperdemon hosted comics if its easily available. Otherwise I'm not loosing sleep over it

Yeah, that sounds like a good idea. I got my own little fanmanga going and it would be nice to post it here. If BR can somehow pull it off then I'd make use of it

I would definitely love it if there were a comic section!  I've been thinking of  starting a fan manga, as well, and it would make things so much easier.

Coding for something like that would be a bitch. If BR thinks she can handle it, that would be uber--I love reading comics. I just don't want her to be overworked what with everything else she's doing.

I like the idea. I've been wanting to sumbit some comics.  I hope it's not too much trouble!

What you are asking of me is really time consuming but DARN AWESOME. Essentially I will have to create a completely new section of the site. Imagine me recreating and reprogramming the writing section and slapping a different name on it.

If I do create a complete system specifically for comcis, this is how it would differ from the Personal Galleries thing: Comic pages wouldn't be mixed in with the regular art galleries. The comic section will be COMPLETELY SEPARATE FROM THE ART GALLERY.

Comics would instead have their own section. It would be very similar to the writing system, where when there is an update to a comic storyline, the title of the comic will be put back at the top of the list of Newest Comics. When you see the listing of comics it will be almost exactly the same as writing listings:
Title
authors
libraries
publish date
number of pages in the comic
number of reviews
date since comic was last updated
and a short summary of the story.

There will be different libraries just like the writing and art sections where you can select a genre, original/fanart, and possibly an age group thing for the red curtain comic section just like the red curtain writing (PG-13, R, R and lemon).

I invision this comic section as being for finished comics. There will be NO finished work, Work In progress, or sketchbook section designation. This will only be for finished comics. If you want to post a WIP page, post it in the regular art galleries for feed back, make improvements, then add it to your comic storyline. Not necesarrily meaning that you have all of the pages done. but that when you post a page, it is a finished page, ready for publication or whatever.

Viewers will be able to navigate through the comic with arrows for previous page and next page. And perhaps a jump menu drop down box like Arkillian mentioned containing all of the pages.  you will also be able to designate what type of comments you want on your comic, just like in writing and artwork.

Perhaps I'll even create it in such a way that you can upload a title/cover page or something. A thumbnail of this title page will appear with the title of your arc in the listing. Imagine it looking almost exactly like the writing section, except when you VIEW a page of a comic, instead of text from a story, you will see an image. And perhaps an author's note at the bottom.
Also, comments will NOT appear on the same page as the comic itself. This is how it is in the writing section. I did this so that there aren't any spoilers for the story.

The way I am currently envisioning this is that it isn't devided into chapters. It's just pages. But perhaps I should consider chapters and pages just like a real graphic novel is like this:

This is just an example. But separating into chapters is a lot more complicated than just having something like this:

Just incase this whole thing turns out to be really huge and we get a lot of people coming here to post their web comics, I should design it with chapters in mind. Al though a lot of comics refer to chapters as Arcs. I tried to build a system like this before for HighFiveComics.com but abandoned the idea because it was too complicated. I'll have to work it out in my head again and see if I can make it work. This is REALLY complex stuff. More complex than the Writing Section and Art Section as far as the database goes.

I think it would be really cool and I like the idea of the comics having their own section and not getting mixed in with the other artwork galleries. That's always sort of bothered me. It always bothers me on Deviant art also how the writing gets mixed in with the artwork. Another good thing about creating a special section just for comics, is that it may bring in a lot of new members that are looking for something like this. I can't think of any art sites out there that have a webcomic section. So we'd be unique in this sense. Anyway, your thoughts? Anything I'm leaving out that I should consider?

This is almost like creating a whole new website. I can probably do it, but it will take time, and the premium account features currently take priority of my time.

EDIT:
I'm thinking this through on paper and I just wanted to mention that the comments/reviews, will be on a CHAPTER not on a page. So you wont have a little thing there to review the chapter on everypage. It will just have a link that says "Write a Review for this chapter" and the comments will be grouped by chapter. You can also choose to view all comments of a comic line.

*glomps BR* That sounds like a HEAP of work- and I'm really glad that you don't think its a crap idea at minimum. As I said- you don't have to do it, so there is no obligations if it becomes too much, but I think there is alot of people here that sound like they are interested Alot of the stuff you mentioned- I had seriously not even thought about, but that's cause I've never hosted a site like this before ^^;  Commenting on a chapter makes alot of sence too. I never thought of the crit and WIP thing, but that makes sence putting it with the normal art. And I fully agree that DA rips for not seperationg stuff- My 'gallery' is filled with writing and art. IT looks messy spech when you only see the first sentance of the story int he thumb. Doesn't do much for advertisement.
I can't even beging to suggest any improvements on what you have just advised- as I said, most of It I didn't think of. That, and all I know is HTML. All I can say is that you'll be a total legend if you can pull this off hon *huggles* And definetly making the premium accounts 'premium' is a priority

Wow that sounds awesome.  Me and a couple of friends are actually working on a huge comic right now so hopefully by the time we are done we will be able to post it for your enjoyment. I am all for it.

I've been thinking more about this comic thing and I think what I'm going to do is create an almost completely new website for it. Almost like a sub website if you will. It will have it's own domain name and such (I'm still thinking of a name) and only premium members will be able to post because of the complexity and awesomeness that the service will provide.

Awwwe- I've got to find out how to get a premium site, and how much it'll take out of my pocket (hopefully not too much- NZ exchange rate isn't that great...)
