Since i have started to draw again, i soon found out, that my drawing skills SUCKS big time!

But anyway, does anyone have some pointers to how to draw a anime-style hair? Cuz i've already drawed the face, but i'm stuck with the hair and i'm kinda lost with the rest of the body too. [emoticon]

And if anyone's interested, that drawing will be / is a close-up...

A great starting point is finding out where the outline of the skull is, then adding the hair onto it. You do the same to clothing. Rememeber that even anime hair can be effected be gravity sometimes [emoticon] Dispite Gokou and Vegeta this is ^^

Ummm- in otherwords, I can only really help with realism. If you need REALISM pointers, that I can help with ^^

Funny you should mention realism, as i believe (my beliefs MAY be wrong) my drawings are a odd crossbreed or realism and anime... [emoticon]

Anyway, thank you for your info, now i have one thing less to worry about, until tomorrow when i actually start to draw the image XD

well do you need tips on how to make hair look like anime hair?? Or just tips on how to draw hair in general?? Cause if it's the first one all you gotta do is make it either really really spikey or really really long. And don't forget to make it really whispy looking like wind is always blowing through it. Brown blonde and black can get boringTry blue or green or pink or purple basically and color you can think of. The shiny sheen in the hair like someone just put their head in a bowling ball polisher is always popular in anime. Don't forget the little fluttery stuff in their hair as well like ribons and beads and such and if you wanna go crazy with it add some cat ears. Well that's as much as I can think of Hope this helped out [emoticon]

Well, i'm not fond of coloring (one reason being, that i'm partially color-blind, i can tell the difference between colors, but mix those certain colors together and tell me to find a pattern there... *shivers*) so i tend to leave them in black and white.

And i'd really like info about those both, Jill. Thanks for helping me out

[emoticon] Oh i'm sorry I didn't know silly me but you can make some cool effects with black and white as well in fact I think you can make that shiny effect stand out alot more with B&W. As for hair in general tips I'm not to good at realism but basically what I do with non-anime hair is I tone down the craziness of it. I make it a realistic length with less sheen and realistic hair styles. Anime hair works more like each strand has its own mind and you can pick out each strand in a picture sometimes what I do is I make the hair move in one whole mass kinda like in comics books. well I know less about this than anime style so that's about as much as I can tell you.

Let me see if I can shed some light on this topic.

I love to draw hair.  And I really love that flowy-anime type hair!

I usually draw my characters bald until I get a good grasp of the pose and setting, etc. Naturally I make a note where the hairline begins.  I pick a hair texture - usually based off a characters personality or a specific mood I want the character to invoke.  I love working with pencil.  I use light strokes with a light graphite (F, H) starting from the scalp. On a seperate sheet of drawing paper practice making flowing or undulating lines in a succession of strokes close together  pressing or lifting your pencil to get a light to dark effect.  It takes some time to practice this for hair especially if the chracter has a odd or complicated hair style. When you're satisfied with your finished product go back with a darker graphite to add deeper values. ( HB, B)

Here's an example of when I used that very technique. Note that I pick up my pencil on certain places to add a sense of 'luster' to the hair.   In this image I used short strokes. http://www.paperdemon.com/artview.php/id/425.html

Well, it's not like I'm anyone to be saying anything. I'm no great artists by far. But, I'm working on some different tutorials as of right now. I could try and do something on hair if you'd like. [emoticon]

Hair is an easy one to fudge about with. If you have a simplified blocky style, then go for solid shaped hair like the DBZ style. If you're more intricate, then start seperating it out. You don't need wind blowing through it always, as long as there is bit not doing eactly the same as others- this creates interest. Hair natrally sticks together, but not in large mass. I do this in my art- a general shape of what the hair is, then do randomy type flicks to give interest ^^ There you go- my trade secret!!!

Aww... everyone is so helpful here. [emoticon] First thing's first... like I told you before, you have to quit saying you suck Joni.  I have seen a little of what you can do, and you are not as bad as you think you are. [emoticon] That said, I have put together some tutorials for you (like I said I would). I am no expert at art hun, so think of them more as guidelines, okay? The easiest way I go about doing anime hair is to think of the hair in thick sections. And when you go to darken it in (since you don't like color) just think of where the light would be falling on those sections and leave those parts lighter than the rest of the hair.  Realistic type hair is completely different. What I like to do is think of how the hair would fall in the position the head is in. And then I darken the strands (yes I make more work for myself than I should and do every single strand instead of just shading it completely in. >_< [emoticon] After it is darkened, I take the edge of my eraser and "brush" highlights into the hair where I think the light would be hitting it.  Check out my Orlando Bloom drawing in my gallery. Minimaid taught me the trick about the eraser and it really works. [emoticon]   Thank you Robin. Now the bodies are alot more difficult... I will help you with that on MSN, okay? All my love. ^_^ Hope I have been somewhat helpful here. Eheheh [emoticon]
