Well, here I am posting a topic..again n__n Anyways thats beside the point. I am going to be performing in a beginers Theater play on the 28th..and I am SOOOOO nervous!! So I was just wondering if anyone out there has any ' Words of Wisdom ' to share with me on that topic.I have no clue how to calm myself down, I am really working myself up over this.*Sigh* I am only going to be on stage for about in all about humm..about maybe 10 minutes. My drama teacher isn't really helping me in getting over my my stage fright. *Shakes fist* Grr.. [emoticon] So if anyone has any experience in this and can give me so help on it I would really appreciate it!And if you don't have any experience and just can give me some hints on what you think I should do to calm myself, I would again appreciate it! Firstly, do NOT take Barney Gumble's advice and picture everyone in their underwear! [emoticon] lol

I've done a few plays in my time and I've always gotten stage fright.

Here's my number one tip - drink a little water before you go up and say your lines, it helps to clear your throat and can prevent shakiness in your voice.

Try to slow your breathing, deep breathing helps to calm the nerves.

If you're worried that you'll forget your lines, do more practicing. Can't get enough practicing. [emoticon]

Don't worry, you'll do great!
In my experience it's people who are over-confident in their abilities who usually screw-up because they don't rehearse enough and all the stage fright comes crashing down at exactly the wrong moment - when they're on stage!

Hope this is helpful to you, good luck! [emoticon]

welp, never did acting, but i sing in my choir...yeh, deep breathing helps, as for the underwear thing...ha, i've done that before and then i just turn red in the face in front of everyone for thinking of the extremely hot guys in my choir class in their hot boxers.....*drools* ALRIGHT! anywho....hmmm, yeh i advise herbal tea to, don't know what it is about chamomile, but it just calms me down, smells good, tastes good, and kinda gives you something else to think about....

as for what i do...iono, when i'm doing that kinda stuff in front of people i tend to go blind to them and only see what i know to the point that it doesn't even seem like i'm in front of people anymore. but yeh, can never stress enough to practice! even if you think you have it memorized to the tee, keep practicing and going over it till the last minute, that way you have more time to play around with exactly how you want to act and sound. you have to find the personality you are comfortable with...yeh, other then that, i say, don't even think about the people, this is a play, do your part as if it really is your life, if you can talk in front of people, then you can act!!! and just enjoy yourself! just like if you are goofing around with friends...*nods* [emoticon] you'll do great

HAVE FUN WITH IT!!!! [emoticon] [emoticon] [emoticon] [emoticon] [emoticon]

I used to perform a bit, acting, singing, playing instruments, etc.  I never had a problem with stage fright until I got older and here's what helped me.

1. When acting, you are no longer you, you're the character.  Anything the character says or does is not your responsiblity or humiliation

2. People are much more entertained by someone who puts their whole heart out there on stage instead of someone who holds back because they're embarrased.

3. You've practiced, you've rehersed, there's nothing more to be done so go out there and show 'em what you've got.

4. If you mess up, the audience won't know.  Play it off as if you meant to do it.  Trust me, this has saved me more then once.

5. You won't for get your lines, cues, etc.  you just won't.  You've worked too hard to forget them, just concentrate on what you need to do and let the audience just be there.  they aren't there to watch you fail, they're there to watch you succeed.

6. Break a leg!
